Are you doing Opti?

I'm not doing Optifast as I'm lactose intolerant, my dietitian suggested Ensure. I hope the next 2 weeks goes fast!

On a different topic has anyone been following the America's Cup? We've been up early watching it every morning. Oracle Team USA just retained the Cup. The Kiwi's were up 8 races to 1 a week ago and blew it. I feel very sad for the Kiwi's but congratulations to USA with their Australian skipper.

I wish the kiwis had won. Oracle is a competitor of my company and I think their CEO is awful in general. He just throws money at every problem. I'm sure the team sailed well but I just can't stand the sponsor!

Contract for new job now signed and I start on 2 December. I will be working at a major hotel on the Gold Coast in sales & marketing. Worked in hospitality for almost 20 years but have been out of it for the past 10. Thank goodness I now have the sleeve as I will be doing a lot of entertaining. I will still have to be selective but I am not as worried about it as I would have been pre sleeve. Love my sleeve!!!!!

Misty I will still be in business with my husband but I am stepping away from the other business with my friend and have suggested she buy me out. Our friendship hasn't survived going into business together and she's had major issues with my getting the sleeve and losing weight over the past year. Time to move forward but no regrets.

I am so happy for you Kelli but sad to hear the outcome of your friendship wasn't all you might have hoped. But you're right- time to move forward to bigger and better things!!!

Everyone is different. Some tell everyone and others tell a few close friends and family beforehand then others when they are ready afterwards' date=' which is what I did. I didn't want to have to explain or justify myself to some people pre surgery as a lot of people don't know enough about this surgery and it's benefits. All of my family and friends were supportive, except for one of best friends who has ignored it from day one and our relationship has broken down completely since, not only because of the surgery, but it certainly was a contributing factor. She is overweight and drinks heavily which she would. Ot want to give up, but still thinks I took the easy way out. Believe me, nothing about this is easy. Do what feels right. My suggestion is to only initially tell those people who you are sure will support your decision. Others don't need to know u til you are ready to tell,them.[/quote']

Thanks Kelli we have only told my sister so far and planned on telling my husbands brother and his wife last weekend but it just didn't feel right. So we have decided to wait until we are sleeved and then start to introduce the topic with our family and friends. Our family's are very opinionated and sometimes run off on tangents about things they don't really understand. So we think it will be better to wait and not turn the next month into a more stressful situation.

I told everyone about 3 weeks before I had it. All my friends were fantastic about it and still are. So are my family except my sister. She just said the other day "at least I'm losing the hard way"!!! She reckons it came out wrong but I know she really ment it. But oh well I just don't talk to her about my weightloss or anything now lol. U need to feel comfortable about who u tell. When u feel it's the right time u'll do it

Bec I can relate I have 2 other sisters that I think this might be an issue for. I am so much bigger than both of them but I know there will be conflict when we start to lose the weight. Your weight loss is fantastic well done

Also wanted to add' date=' we all feel differently about telling ppl or not. I chose to tell a few people, some ppl assumed I was getting banded, as that is pretty accepted nowadays. I told people that supported me and knew my story, that at 150 kgs I had tried and failed so many times. People often have different reactions, some out of fear for you or jealousy or any number of other reasons. At any point you have to trust you are doing the right thing for you. Anything anyone says after that is just words. Last year I officially outed myself, and had such a supportive reaction, of course at that stage I had lost 70 kgs and was living a healthy full life. But this I knew when I made the decision to had the sleeve. Outing myself so to speak put to rest a lot of rumours, only you will know when and even if it should be done.[/quote']

After reading this it made me stop and think about wether I will ever be that confident to do the same as you did? I guess I'll ask myself the same question after 70kg ha ha

That's great Bec! I saw Dr. Robins today (a gastro). He took my history' date=' did some poking and prodding (one area is very tender) as booked me in for a colonoscopy next Thursday. He also sent me for a blood test for celiac even though we don't think it is that. The blood test was an adventure as always because I have terrible veins. The normal person tried three times before paging one of the chemo nurses to come and do it. I have bruises all over now but that's done.[/quote']

Missy I know how you feel. Every time I get a blood test it's always an experience where I walk away bruised and battered.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
