When have most people told friends and family about having the surgery ?

Everyone is different. Some tell everyone and others tell a few close friends and family beforehand then others when they are ready afterwards, which is what I did. I didn't want to have to explain or justify myself to some people pre surgery as a lot of people don't know enough about this surgery and it's benefits. All of my family and friends were supportive, except for one of best friends who has ignored it from day one and our relationship has broken down completely since, not only because of the surgery, but it certainly was a contributing factor. She is overweight and drinks heavily which she would. Ot want to give up, but still thinks I took the easy way out. Believe me, nothing about this is easy. Do what feels right. My suggestion is to only initially tell those people who you are sure will support your decision. Others don't need to know u til you are ready to tell, them.

When have most people told friends and family about having the surgery ?

The truth, so I don't have to remember what I said. :) the trick is gauging how much they want to know and not over-sharing or making every conversation or meal about it.

Oh I thought you said What not When. I told most people afterward. Only a few people before.

When have most people told friends and family about having the surgery ?

I told everyone about 3 weeks before I had it. All my friends were fantastic about it and still are. So are my family except my sister. She just said the other day "at least I'm losing the hard way"!!! She reckons it came out wrong but I know she really ment it. But oh well I just don't talk to her about my weightloss or anything now lol.

U need to feel comfortable about who u tell. When u feel it's the right time u'll do it

Well I get to see my surgeon for a checkup today!! I'm down 27.6kgs in 19 weeks. I reckon he will be very happy! I got to my first personal goal of 115kgs (I'm now 114.9kg!) so I'm over the moon! I'll let u all know how I go. Oh and I'll see how my bloods went too

When have most people told friends and family about having the surgery ?

I told my parents and sister and a few close friends before the surgery. Post op I have only told one additional person. If it feels right I will tell more people, but for now I am happy with those I have told and don't want to share with anyone else. Everyone is different. Everyone has an opinion. I'm lucky in that out of the people I have told I have only had positive reactions (apart from my sister who came around once she did some research) I am very careful in who I tell, just because I don't want the negativity.

Hi all,

So good to see more people safely on the flip side.

Donna, you are doing great and definitely the first week post op is the hardest post op.

Bec, I can't see the pics but that is a great loss. You should be so proud.

I wish I could be there on the 5 th...damn! Hope you all have fun and there will be pictures :) can't wait to hear the stories.

Sorry I have been AWOL for a few days, had a bit of a hiccup with the plastics surgery and have an infection in my wound, spent a couple of days in bed with fevers and sweats but am on the way back now.

Also wanted to add, we all feel differently about telling ppl or not. I chose to tell a few people, some ppl assumed I was getting banded, as that is pretty accepted nowadays. I told people that supported me and knew my story, that at 150 kgs I had tried and failed so many times.

People often have different reactions, some out of fear for you or jealousy or any number of other reasons.

At any point you have to trust you are doing the right thing for you. Anything anyone says after that is just words.

Last year I officially outed myself, and had such a supportive reaction, of course at that stage I had lost 70 kgs and was living a healthy full life. But this I knew when I made the decision to had the sleeve.

Outing myself so to speak put to rest a lot of rumours, only you will know when and even if it should be done.

Well I had my check up with my surgeon. My bloods were perfect which is great. Also I have now lost 28.3kgs!!!! Dr Daoud is very happy with my loss. He also doesn't believe in goal weights. But does believe I'll have no problems getting down to 65-70kgs in 12 months.

Well I'm over the moon this arvo :)

That's great Bec!

I saw Dr. Robins today (a gastro). He took my history, did some poking and prodding (one area is very tender) as booked me in for a colonoscopy next Thursday. He also sent me for a blood test for celiac even though we don't think it is that. The blood test was an adventure as always because I have terrible veins. The normal person tried three times before paging one of the chemo nurses to come and do it. I have bruises all over now but that's done.

Two weeks tomorrow (Thursday) until my surgery. I'm both excited and anxious at the moment.

Misty, I hope you get to the bottom of it soon. Sorry for the bad pun! I have coeliac disease so know what that's all about. It's great that they are doing tests to rule it out one way or the other.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.

Lost my Pup last month and struggled really hard for that first month. Stopped tracking intake and slid into old habits here and there. Also quit working out. Can't walk in the neighborhood because of all of the memories we shared. Losing my Pup is the most heartbreaking thing I've ever been through. My Pup was my world 💔
Talked to my doc during my one year followup and they were not worried about my current status. They know, and I know, that I will get back on track.

I'm so sorry. I lost my pup (Mr. Bitters - a chocolate Pomeranian) 2 years ago and it still makes me tear up. He was my everything - my constant companion. I understand. Do the best you can to get back on track.
