Kelliv, good to hear that you have pulled through well. Hope you get to go home today.

Lila, Not long now...very exciting. The pre-op was the hardest thing for me, so when you get through that you will be able to handle the rest I am sure. Be ready for the ketosis, it was the thing i wasnt expecting at all. Chewing gum helped.

Robbie, welcome aboard, so to speak. Congrats on your weight loss so far.

For all you on the pre-op, liquids, mushee stages it will pass. It is hard to figure out what to eat. I am sure I did not follow much of a plan, I only saw a nutritionist at like the 6 week mark and she was shocked how little I was eatting. Her and my surgeon are now working closer together and combining talents etc for future patients.

My doctor had me nil by mouth for 48 hours and then liquids for another 48 hours. Then said I could start with pureed/soft things. Also had no drains or leak test.

Nessa, I snack on cheese also, either to sticks, or the triangle bits, also I have had some almonds, or clip biscuits with hummus or avocado. I do drink fruit and veggie juice between meals.

I currently have the Mainland 'On The Go' Tasty Light cheese with crackers.

My Snacks are:-

cheese - Bega so slim slices

Clix biscuits

Deli meat (ie shaved turkey/chicken)

Soleil yoghurt

Canned tuna

In fact the above, aside from the odd jar of baby food are my staple diet. I feel like I'm eating way too much but when I record everything I eat in a day, I'm not eating much at all. Less than 500 calories and thats with my Protein shake.

I've become absolutely obsessed with Protein, carb and fat content of any food. It kinda frustrates me that I've become so fussy. Its a good thing but I don't want to completely deprive myself when I'm eating so little anyway. Hope that makes sense :)

I've been a bit frustrated with not being able to have a decent meal, a normal portion. I think the reason why it frustrates me is because I eat so little but cant see any weightloss yet.

Anyway I'll just keep plodding along. I'm away for work for 5 wks and there are no scales in the hotel so fingers crossed I get a nice surprise when I next weigh in.

I'm seeing my dietician on Wednesday so I'll ask her if it's normal to 'feel hungry'. I'm trying not to snack between my main meals as I don't want to fall into a pattern of eating crap again and jeopardise my sleeve. I know it's impossible, but constant snacking just because got me to where I was pre surgery.

I've been really bad and haven't had any Opti shakes and my protein intake is rather low. I'm struggling to drink 1lt of Water.

For the last week I have been having the following;

Optifast - Breakfast

Crusket, avocado & salmon - lunch

Stir-fry/chicken/snitzel/pie /sushi at dinner

Babybel cheese / yoghurt - 1 x snack day

Gatorade

Water

Congrats Scotty for taking this step. I couldn't wait a year either, especially if I had some super to use. I'm just thankful I had my phi but still was out of pocket $7000.

Kelliv - hope you are home and feeling well :)

Thanks Aussiegirl, it feels great to be home. Had final drain out today and external staples removed from other 4 incisions. Very little pain but when I sip I get some discomfort in my new stomach area. Don't know if that means I am sipping too quickly. It's taken meall afternoon to drink alf a pump bottle of Water. I've had an Opti shake in two parts this afternoon and about a third ofa cup of creamed broccoli & cauliflower Soup for dinner. Considering I've had nothing but liquid since Monday I would have thought I'd have lost some weight this week, but I haven't. My body is no doubt in shock! My mum cooked lamb Shanks for dinner tonight and I was surprised at the normal size servings they ate and they now feel self conscious too. It's certainly a journey for all of us. Looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight.

Nice one Scotty' date=' good luck with your appt.

A question for the post sleevers. Do you drink alcohol? How often? What do you drink? How much can you drink?

Thanks in advance[/quote']

I was wondering about this too. I like the odd glass of wine. I am sure that will be ok in future if timed either side of meals.

Hi Kelli,

Yeah it's normal to feel discomfort in the first week or so after surgery. I had quite a bit of pain trying to eat Soup. It just wouldn't go down. I think I could only manage a few tablespoons at a time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
