Hi There

Whilst this is a fantastic site with bazillions of fabulous people, there is also an australian site called gastric sleeve support dot com dot au. There are brilliant people there who arrange meet ups and offer support. This site has great info and support and the Australian one is probably better for finding out about surgeons and hospitals in Oz.

Good luck with your journey!

I'm an Aussie too living in Brisbane and have my surgery booked for 30 May pending release of some super - keeping everything crossed cause I only need $4500. I have been on the Australian sleevers forum but find it very frustrating to navigate so I come on here. The banding together forum also has a sleeve section now since there are quite a few band to sleeve convertors. Let us know how you get on.

Hi there,

I am Australian as well. Live in QLD.

Due on 15th in almanda private hospital in Gold Coast with dr Nolan. Tough time to go through preparing for surgery. I am going for sleeve, that was my choice. I didn't want to go for a band. Hope every thing is going fine with everybody. Great decision to take to change our life and gain ourselves back again. I know it will not be an easy trip, but Iam sure it worth it.

Good luck for everybody. And hope we can keep n touch

All the best with that, I live in Sydney Australia, been married 18 years overweight basically since I was 18 years old battled up and down, and all I dream for now is to have this surgery so I can live again, I suffer from back pain knees have had it also , and I have an old Treadmill injury (Anckle) that won't go away so I've tried to exercise, but I mostly need this surgery for my children's sake I want to be able to move again and play with them, I have 5 wonderful kids and a loving husband who loves me for who I am, but I said to my family I need to do this for me.

I'm booked for sleeve surgery on 30th May and have just found out that APRA have approved the early release of some of my superannuation funds!!! Yippee!! I am so happy because this was all I was waiting on. I have private health insurance so I don't need that much but now I have the go ahead - very excited and scared. It was Mother's Day here yesterday and I didn't realise how big I was until I saw a picture taken of my mum and I - wow! just awful but next Mother's Day I will be bangin!!

It's day 3 for me and it's going great, I'm not too sore just have trouble sleeping right through in the night.

Hope your doing well.

Hey Lavea,

I'm 29 and was sleeved 18th July, I have always been big and struggled with weight. A day before my op the hospital rang and said I wasn't covered for the hospital gap, it was going to cost me $9000. I was completely shocked, it was my mums advice when I had rung her to ask for her opinion that made me say stuff it let's do it.

Mums words 'do you want to keep suffering and being depressed about your weight, who cares about the money, it's your happiness that you will gain'

So bring on the Sleeve and well done to all..

Was really lucky, surgeon did not charge the gap so I didn't have to pay for him. Thank god!

That's great! Ideally you would have gotten more notice from the hospital than $9000, credit, cheque or savings!! Lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
