Yeah it does depend on ur surgeon. Plus I knew everything about the surgery and why I wanted and needed it. So Dr Daoud said I was in the right frame of mind.

Hey guys - can i ask how many of you still take pariet post-op? Ive had a bit of a funny tummy of late and did some research trying to work out if Ive had a tummy bug or a reaction to pariet (too much dr google!). A friend of mine who has had the same surgery doesn't need it anymore but I still tend to get really gassy if I don't take it at night...

Love to hear your thoughts? Ive asked my Dr (about gas etc post op) and he wasn't very helpful...

Hi there soon to be sleeved I am 7 months post sleeve op and I suffer terribly from gas.

I have found that as soon as I eat I start to belch and immediately get tummy pain with wind so then I feel like I need to go no two,s and end up going to the ladies just to pass wind (I'm talking a lot of wind here) very embarrassing actually because I'm up and down to the ladies all along burping..........Hmmmmmmm.....don't know what to do!!!! Any ideas Anyone!!!!!!!

I'm counting down, too - my PHI won't kick in until December 2015. The last two months have gone so slowly (even with Xmas and holidays), the next ten will be torture! Plus I haven't even had the initial consult yet, so technically I don't even know that I can even get it done.

I'm NSW central coast-ish. I don't know a single person who's had any type of WLS, so these boards are great :)

Hi everyone, I'm so glad to have found this thread! The USA based ones have some brilliantly supportive people but there seem to be some big differences with all the pre op st uff compared to here. A 6 month preparation period for example! Also, its good to hear about local Surgeons and hospitals and actually understand metric measurements LOL!

So, I have a BMI of over 40 and have very good health insurance, however I will still be applying for early release of funds from my super to help ease the financial burden for my family. Can we do this even if we only have the compulsory contributions ?

I've only very recently started thinking about getting this surgery, in fact, just when I saw that Australian Idol in a magazine with her amazing weight loss. I'm so at my wit's end with my weight and am really Starting to believe that I need to do something drastic and life changing.

of course I have my doubts and concerns. Certainly Surgery of any kind is no walk in the park. And removing most of a healthy organ is a bit of a worry too but to me this is a last resort, that for certain.

Regarding surgeons, for those in Sydney , does anyone have experience with the O clinic in Crows Nest (who operate out of the mater) or the North shore clinic who use North Shone Private Hospital? I'm going to an information evening at the latter in a week or so.

Would love to hear from anyone going through the same journey as me.

I bought that mag solely for the story on Kate DeAraugo. It was mainly about her personal struggles with weight, but not much else (I was only interested in it because of the sleeve aspect, but from memory it was sort of just glossed over). They went a bit overboard with the Photoshop, too, I reckon!

Haha yes they did photoshop it a bit! I read it online and that was the first time I'd actually heard of the sleeve. It really piqued my interest and I'm going to see my GP next week for a surgeon's referral, although I'm still anxious about slicing apart an organ. How will my stomach stand up 30 years from now?

Hi guys- it has been ages since I posted or even logged in. Life kind of got in the way I guess!!

My surgery was September 2012. My highest weight was 175kg. My current weight is 72kg. I am 5'10.

I am feeling great, have an amazing new job and moved to Queensland (Toowoomba). I am still trying to work out the food and exercise balance but I keep plugging away. I just started with an exercise physiologist to help me lose the last few kg (5-7 kg loss would be good) but to improve my general fitness.

Last year I went to Fiji - would never have done that before!!! I am definitely getting out there a lot more, am dating (God what a mine field huh!?!) and generally being more active.

Here are some recent photos for you guys- hope you're all well!!

Cheers Liss

If I don't do this, I won't be alive in 30 years anyway...

WOW, just got back from Konga (boxercise type class) and I swear the jiggle of my bottom nearly knocked me over. I hope this exercise reduces the jiggles a little bit. I am at ten months and I dont have alot of extra skin but enough to wobble. Does exercise make a small impact??

Love to hear from anyone.

Hi you are very lucky I have lots of skin but my husband who also had the sleeve doesn't. We are about 15mths out and exercise has really helped him with the jiggle. Me not so much so planning on surgery this year to remove it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
