I haven't started Vitamins yet, however I am feeling like I need to. I am worried about swallowing them in the early stages of post op. Does anyway here know what happened here, or do you not take the Vitamins until things settle down.

welcome, there are some bariatric vitamins that are chewable, they are not the most flavoursome but are edible and cover just about everything you need on the reduced nutritional intake. The were highly recommended by both my nutritionist and surgeon. I have recently had bloods done and all my levels were terrific. Good luck and enjoy your journey.

Hi Smashville, my dietician and the nurses said it was fine to swallow tablets as soon as you are on fluids following surgery. They give you pain killing tablets, so vitamins shouldn't be any different. Good luck

Me too. Ask your surgeon before you spend heaps of money. I use Blackmores Sustained Release with antioxidants and Blackmores Bone Health.

Hi all, I am a recent VGS on the 18.02.14 after being banded in 2008. My surgeon was initially reluctant to take my WLS to the next level however I put a good case to him about VGS being essential as a preventative healthcare tool to prevent diabetes, CVD, hypertension etcetera etcetera. Band was awful from day1, weight loss when having nothing more than Optifast shakes and as soon as I tried any solid food I either obstructed or was able to eat a whole family sized pizza. VGS is very very different! I have been on puree's for almost a week yet I don't have any sense of fullness. I'm unsure as to whether I should be strictly adhering to the recommended by NUT quantities at mealtimes or it's OK to eat more. I am down 9kg.

Hi everyone

I am a year out & at my goal weight -might like to loose 3-5 but if not that's ok.

I am wondering if anyone else has has this happen to them too . When I eat mainly my evening me & it's usually only a very small amount a half a entree ,or 1 small chop ect etc. once I have eaten it I instantly feel totally exhausted and, I cant stop big yawns, I can barely keep my eyes open. I feel so tired I just want to lay down. It passes after about 20 to 30 mins.

Thanks Karen

It could be mild reactive hypoglycemia. I get it with carb-heavy meals but more extreme and need to be careful. Try adding a bit more fat and Protein to your meal and reducing carbs a bit. You can test your blood sugar using a tester you can get at the chemist. It shouldn't go much below 4. Test when you are feeling worst.
