Misty I can go via Murrarie and pick you up. If anyone else wants a lift from Brisbane I have two other seats.

That's awesome. I will take you up on that and I will chip in for the petrol. :)

I will be there' date=' I am very excited! There would be a bus from Helensvale station to Southport I think. If you saw a bus that said Seaworld on it that bus would go past Marina Mirage. I am sure you could google Gold Coast buses.[/quote']

Great Jen I look forward to meeting you. Are you driving down from Brisbane or do you live on the Coast?

I live here. Can't seem to find any one else who lives here and yet I know my surgeon is kept busy and Sleeve is his surgery of choice. I am looking forward to meeting you all, I have lots of questions.

Great Misty. Text me your address closer to the day. Don't worry about petrol but you can shout coffee on the way if you like! I often stop at a roadhouse half way to the Coast. Can't wait to see how different you look since we last met.

On Saturday 5 October we are planning a get together on the Gold Coast where Lissa will be visiting on holidays. I have already had the privilege of meeting her when we both happened to be visiting Melbourne recently and I am sure there are many more of you who have followed her journey and would like to meet her in person. We are going to meet at a cafe called Providore at the Marina Mirage Shopping Centre at 11.00am. Let us know if you will be coming along.

I'll be there Kelli!!!

That's great. Do you have family or friends in Brisbane to support you both? If not I will be happy to come and visit you both or bring you anything you need during the couple of.nights you are in hospital. I live at The Gap which is only about 20 minutes drive from your hospital. Will you both have to do Optifast during 2 week pre-op?

Hi Kelli that's such a thoughtful offer, thank you so much. We do have friends and family in Brisbane but have not told them yet. We figure the longer we delay telling them. The more time we have to work out how to deal with the advice and fears of everybody else. Yes we will need to be on the shakes for at least 2 weeks prior to surgery. Maybe we can catch up for coffee once we get to Brisbane. We would love to have someone to chat with about life after the sleeve. Thank you once again for the generosity of your time and advice. Enjoy your time on the Gold Coast meeting up with everyone.

Hi Everyone!

A little update on my progress so far! So I was finally sleeved a week ago today! 7 long months on a waiting list and my day came :)

This week has gone by so fast - thankfully as well because the first couple of days weren't pleasant at all lol

But today being one week out and three weeks since starting the pre op diet and I've lost 10.9kg! I knew because I was heavier I would have a big number in the first few weeks but never did I think it would be that high! I'm so pleased and yes I am missing actually chewing/eating good but hell I can get over that if my results are so good lol

Loving my sleeve already lol

I only a few months ago moved from the Gold Coast to Rockhampton - such a bummer as I would have loved to meet u all at the meet coming up! Hugs and hope u have a wonderful time!

Donna

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
