Hi Everyone

Its been a while since I said Hi and im slowly catching up on a few months of reading to see what people have been up to.

If you don't remember me I was banded in 2010 followed by 2 yrs of yo yo adjustments and stomach that was never happy at meal time and put the 20 kgs I lost plus 10kgs more on top of it it back on. Forcing me to take a huge step and have the sleeve done..... So I took a huge step and in December after waiting 10 weeks post having my band out. I finally went and had the sleeve done. I was 152kgs pre op and as of today I have am at 132kgs Making a grand total of 20kgs lost since December. My surgeon thinks Im not losing enough weight. That I should have lost more by now. .....

I really want to see double digits by December. So if anyone has and tips to push my weight lose on I would love to hear it... I will put up so before and after photos ... soon.

Hope everyone is well

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

Welcome back and thanks for the update. 20kgs s still a good loss, but are you seeing a dietician as doing a food diary and having someone analyse what you are eating will make all the difference? Mine suggests 800 calories per day, with 3 small meals and one snack either in the afternoon or evening, 60 grams of Protein per day spread over each meal including Breakfast. Minimal, Pasta, rice and potato, especially at dinner. Lots of Water, minimum of 1.5lt per day which I struggle to get in. Keep us posted on your progress.

20kg is still a good loss and you do have 6 months until December so it would be great if you can get close to your goal.

I think what Kelli suggested about seeing a dietician is a good start if you don't already. my recommended calorie intake by a bariatric dietician is 1200 calories per day but this is due to my 6 days of an intense exercise program and my metabolic rate is 1700+ calories. Maybe increase your exercise if you are lacking in this area and change things around otherwise your body gets immune to the routine...

Congrats Sarah! I agree with the advice to see a dietician and also to avoid carbs (bread, rice, Pasta and Cereal... And of course all manner of sweet treats and spuds). At 132kg you may still be finding exercise hard on your joints (I've dropped 17kg from 103 to 86 and have found that's made an incredible difference... Far more than I expected), and if so diet will be your main strategy for a while yet. So a good dietician could be particularly helpful.

I'm not a fast loser by any means and am happy with a low carb 1000 cal per day... It is giving me a consistent loss but I'm just walking the dogs every day. Looking to add Zumba now my joints can take it ...

Good luck with it all.

Hi Sarah. 20kg is an awesome achievement. I know it can get a little frustrating when there's no movement. Definitely take the other girls advice though as a dietician will know how to improve your WL.

All the best and try to stay positive :)

Sarah, I meant to also say that if you haven't had your thyroid checked its always worth doing that. If nothing else it puts the "bad metabolism" thought out of your head and allows you to really focus on what you can do. And if there is a problem getting it sorted will make a huge difference. Good luck, again.

Congratulations on your loss and welcome back, Sarah! I think it is great to work with a dietitian. Also are you able to exercise much? That always helps me.

I'm all packed and ready to go. I leave for the airport in about an hour and a half. I'm looking forward to this trip, and ice even budgeted myself half a bowl of laksa at Singapore airport on the way! I'm sure I will probably still be on VST daily and I will be logging all my food on MFP too. I'd love to come back 2-3 kg lighter.

So, a 4 piece nuggets from red rooster was my lunch at the airport. 200 calories and almost 12 grams of Protein. Could be a lot worse and filled me right up. Before the surgery I could have had 12+. And chips.< /p>

Hi everyone, I've been a bit quiet lately, however, I have been watching everyone's great progress.

Welcome back Sarah jp....I'm not sure if you have caught up with the fact that we now have the same Surgeon and I know he is not good with empathy, although I find him much more relaxed than he used to be. :) I'm also losing slowly and I don't think he's going to be happy when I see him in 3 weeks. Would you like to meet and have a coffee, it might help to have a chat? I don't work, so my time is fairly flexible, once we get past the School holidays. I know a few people who have the same Surgeon, maybe we could start a 'mini' Support group here in Melbourne??????

Have a great day.

Michele

Hi. What Melbourne surgeon are you referring to?

Hi K8ee, his name is Stephen Blamey and he is located in Blackburn. Sorry, I didn't mean to exclude people, I would be happy for anyone else who wants to come to a get together to join us.

Maybe I should just pick a date and have it at my home, but I am in Mornington, so it's not really central?

Let me know if you would be interested.

Best wishes

Michele

I have heard that some people lose the ability to absorb B12 so have to have injections for life - have you noticed any pins and needles or tingling in your fingers/hands?

Hi sue I have had it in one toe for years, when I mentioned it to my then GP he tested me for diabetes which came back fine. He just put it down to one of those things.

Hi there

I have struggled with B12 since I was banded in 2008. When I was pregnant about 6 months later my levels were almost non-existent and I was on weekly shots for about a month and then monthly for 6 months and then 3 monthly thereafter. I think as someone mentioned above - for some of us the inability to absorb B12 is triggered off. The thing is that you don't want to ignore or half heartedly treat your levels as it can lead to permanent tingling in your hands and feet (peripheral neuropathy by memory it is called) and potentially can be caused by pernicious anaemia - which is something else you want to check out. But most frighteningly it has strong links to memory loss and dementia. All very scary. Anyway I hope that helps a bit :-)

Thanks for the info, I am going to see my GP next Monday for my first injection and will quiz her then

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
