mistysj 1,940 Posted June 1, 2013 Another good purée or soft food is palak paneer! It is Indian cheese and spinach curry. Puréed really well and half a cup is around 100 calories. And has spinach! So good. 1 *Dean* reacted to this
Helmc2 108 Posted June 1, 2013 Hi guys. I saw my dietician a week ago last Friday, so things r starting to happen slowly. I found her to be really nice and we had a great chat, but she didn't really give me any information at all. I got one sheet with pre op Optifast instructions and she told me to come back when I was two weeks post op and that was it. So...now I'm feeling a little bit let down by the experience. Looks like I'm going to be relying on you guys heaps and heaps over the coming weeks/months! So glad I've found this forum. I have started going back thru the posts from the start (even though I've already read it) and this time I'm taking notes. Lol. Don't see my surgeon again until 26/6 and hope to set a surgery date then, so back to waiting for now. 2 *Dean* and kim0079 reacted to this

Full liquid means anything you can drink through a straw (but don't really use one). No seeds or chunks. During the liquid phase the focus is first on getting enough Fluid and second on getting enough Protein. I survived on three Meal Replacements a day, broth, fruit juice, and Water. It is best to use Optifast or optislim as your Meal Replacement because three of them meet all your daily nutrition needs. Trust me it will seem like a lot to drink three of those a day! But I don't want to contradict what she said so you may want to phone her and ask about the first couple weeks post-op. Even today I realized that for me in the purée phase, 800 calories feels almost like a binge day. It is strange how quickly you adjust to the new routine post-op. I tried some new things today (palak paneer, mashed banana with Peanut Butter, hummus) and that was nice. But I felt "bad" for going over 700 calories. I told myself how silly that was. This is such a head game sometimes. The funny thing is I don't even think I'm going to stall this week (even though most people seem to have a three week stall). But I don't want to jinx it! My husband left yesterday morning for a business trip and won't be back until the 11th. This would usually be a binge trigger for me. I used to do a big shop and buy all my favorite "bad" foods and watch crappy tv and movies the whole time he was gone. I've had therapy and I think it is because when I was a child my parents restricted my food severely so I snuck food. I didn't have a great time growing up. It's uncomfortable having to choose to do something different this time, but I also feel empowered. I did basically waste my Saturday being lazy (except for a long walk). But I'm trying not to feel guilty and trying to be proud of eating on plan. I hope that's not too much info for you guys. I hope that talking about it will help me process it. 2 *Dean* and kelliv reacted to this

kelliv 659 Posted June 1, 2013 Thanks Misty. I am planning on talking to the surgeon about it and yeah will probably phone her. Thanks for the info. Good luck while ur hubby is away. I'm sure u will b fine! A good dietician does need to offer you information and support for the 2 weeks pre op and especially every week for the for 4-6 weeks post period during the transition period. I am 10 months put and still see a dietician once per month although have just changed the next appointment to every second month. Good luck!
