I am in. Just tell me when and where. It will be my last pre-sleeve lunch! I am sure I will be totally self conscious about what I eat!

Hi Susan from Sydney here. Sleeved last Monday 29th April' date=' and doing ok so far. I'm on the north side of Sydney (mid north shore, sort of) and went to the OClinic at Crows Nest. I'd love to meet up with others - especially veterans but I'm happy to share my experiences with the pre-op'ers too.

Like others here I've found it hard to navigate the Aus forum, though it looks good. They need an app for those of us who use the phone for this sort if thing.

BTW v happy so far with OClinic/Dr Craig Taylor. I feel I received excellent surgical and post-op care (Mater Hosp) that focused on me leaving the hospital in v good shape. Four nights in and home on a Friday, so hubby could care for me on the weekend. Felt perfect. I'm in awe of those who came out of hospital after only a couple of nights - made of tougher stuff than me!

Re Optifast, I've been on it sooo many times in my attempts to lose weight. I hate that it is all sweet stuff plus a very "lame" Soup. What is wrong with some savoury options? A tip: follow Optifast instructions to the letter and you'll feel less hungry. I have kept putting milk in my tea and coffee at times, figuring it can't do much harm on such a low cal diet. Pre-op I ditched the milk and found I went into ketosis v quickly and hunger pains were kept at bay. And I think it really does make a difference to the size of your liver. I don't lose heaps of weight on it, but I am always slow at weight loss. Good luck to all!

I haven't yet made it through all 87 pages of this thread, but I'm sure I will. It looks great.[/quote']

Hi there and congratulations Susan. It is good to learn your tips about the optifast diet.My dietician was firm that no other preop Protein shakes could be used and strictly no dairy or trace sugars. So your advice is spot on .He did however tell me to eat nonstarchy veges all day-a bit of olive oil was ok for stir frying-mainly salads.Hope you continue your smooth recovery :)

One week to go for me!

I don't know if this will work post-op but I tried the Protein powder I got and its not gross! I added a tbsp to 100g of Greek yogurt and it didn't add any taste and doubled the Protein. Woohoo! I have to admit I was nervous. I haven't worked my way up to adding it to my coffee yet, I am afraid it would curdle.

AussieLady I don't know if you still read this thread but I'm thinking about you today. I hope you have a good day today.

I'm still here' date=' I just don't post very much any more.

I'm actually really struggling with my body. I'm wearing size 6 jeans that are hanging off me and I weigh less than 55kg. I am still a fat girl and need to lose more weight.

I'm not happy, I'm obsessed and I hate my body more now than I did 60kgs ago.

I'm sorry if this is a big downer for the newbies, and I'm sorry for not addressing everybody and all your successes individually. You have all done amazingly.

I'm struggling to eat and will some days eat less than 10 grapes in the whole day.

This is the reason for my absence from the forums of late. I hope you all understand.

If anybody in Sydney wants to catch up, I'm in.[/quote']

Hi puppyphat. You don't know me-I am a newbie-I have followed your journey from your first post here.I know the dark place you are in right now.I was there in my 20's.It is called 'body dysmorphia' and is linked to anxiety/depression which is clinically recognised risk following sleeve surgery. The disconnect between what you see / know and what you deep down believe is debilitating. What is constant, regardless of the kilos, is the self loathing.Starving yourself is not going to help you think clearly on top of all the other bad effects on your health.I surfaced from this terrible time with counselling and I have been very happy for two decades and I know you can be too.You appear on this thread to be an intelligent, kind hearted and witty person. That part of you is very beautiful and very real.So is your love for your daughter who loves you unconditionally and is watching you. Please, please go and ask for help for her sake if you can't bear to do it for yourself.

Ok Misty, that's great. Hopefully a few others will be free to join us, otherwise happy to still get together if it's just the two of us. If you would like to message board me your mobile number so we an contact each other on the day that would be great. I am looking forward to meeting you next week for your second last pre sleeve meal.

Just over 2 weeks but I took a cancellation - dr said normal waiting period was 9 weeks. That was only mid last month. I didn't have a psych appt beforehand and think it would be wiser - for your own sake - to have that. Good to think through this decision really well. I feel ok (good actually), but I'm aware I took a risk that's not recommended... And don't think the clinic should have let me.

I'm in Sydney btw.

Wow, so how are you feeling??? Did you do opti fast for one or two weeks? I'm in totally agree in regards to seeing a psychologist, I want to be in the "right" place before it all happens!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
