And as a way of not becoming a statistic.

I just joined up to do the Mothers Day Classic Fun Run...4 km run.

Fingers crossed I will be able to run by then....

Who else wants to join in for a good cause....you can walk it too :)

Hey Mini Me' date=' good to see you.

The first thing they gave me at the hospital to consume was an icy pole, so I think you should be fine with that. But just watch the sugar in them, you can always make ice blocks with low cal cordial and suck on those to help get fluids in.

Did you have a nutritionist doctors, order for eatting post sugery? They would be best placed comment.

However based on the advise I was given from my doctor, all of those should be fine 7 days post op, thin brothy Soup.

I never did Protein shakes, hated them so cant really comment on the consuming of them.

You can try mixing the Water up with low cal cordial as well, it helped me get the Water down at first as water felt hard on the stomach, but amazingly flavouring the water it didnt feel as bad. I also drank tea...lots and lots of green tea.

Good luck with your recovery, you will do great. And those canula's hurt like a buggery, they tried me a couple of times as well....ouch!!! I feel for you :)[/quote']

Thanks for the cordial ice blocks idea, Instead of drinking cordial I think I'll drink Powerade zero to get some electrolytes in as well and I haven't even thought of tea I will try that this morning

That's terrible Novo. What about seeing your surgeon and telling him about the problem, he may be able to persuade your GP some way?

It sucks for you, but I guess it's fair. Do you have severe comorbidities and are you likely to die within a year? I didn't realize that was the criteria you had to meet for super withdrawal. I didn't qualify for early super release and my surgeon said not to bother jumping through all the hoops to just be rejected. I was 104kg, had mild sleep apnoea, had high blood pressure that was being controlled by medication and asthma, none of which were immediately life threatening or debilitating.

I took out a personal loan.

Thanks mini.mee I will give the surgeons office a call next week cos im too upset at present :-( im trying to get myself healthy and do whats best for me and my family and just feels like a kick in the guts and to make things worse hubby didnt show any empathy when I came home bawling. Just suggested that maybe if I couldnt get a gp to fill out the forms that I should cancel all my pre-op appointments because we really cant afford them at present if there is "no point"

Just re-read my post and it sounded a little harsh. What I meant is that your dr is probably just covering their butt, are you able to speak with another dr at the same practice, or a specialist who is treating you for anything else? sleep specialist, cardiologist, endocrinologist etc?

Hey puppyphat. I have a minor heart problem that if I dont lose weight will require surgery in the next 5 years. My mum had a double bypass at 52 so family history of heart disease. High cholesterol and did have diabetes during pregnancy so now a higher risk for that now too... I have a cardiologist who gave me the initial referral so I will have to go try see him but he is about a 6 week wait :-( and I forgot to get a new referral for him cos i left the GP upset..

It used to be fine to send a letter which is what I have from the surgeon but they said it was easier to get the forms done to alleviate mistakes by a gp.. The surgeon was happy to write life threatening..

Dont worry I didnt take it like that :-) I said to the doctor I understood if she felt uncomfortable doing it guess Im just sad that it is going to be harder than I expected seeing as though my Gp has known me for years and that hubby was not sympathetic when I came home... I wouldnt be able to take out a loan either as i dont work cos Im a stay home mum and we already have more than enough debt with no money left to spare so super is really my only option.

Hey guys

Just a little update' date=' I had my surgery on the 7th of march which was last Thursday, thankfully I've had minimal pain just a lot of discomfort from the gas, the only complication I had was my anesthetist had trouble finding a vein for my IV cannula, he tried three times on my left arm, before I went into the operating room and I woke up with an IV cannula in my right hand but there is another puncture wound from another failed attempt also on my right arm. And I got cellulitis (inflammation of the vein) in my left hand and broke out in a rash which I'm currently treating with a topical corticosteroid called Elcon.

Now for my Fluid intake, I'm struggling with my Protein shake I can barely drink one full shake which causes me the feel so full. I also drink tiny amounts of Water throughout the day but I'm struggling and I know who important they both are especially the Protein.< /p>

So tomorrow I'm going to try icey poles, Soups, and a cup full of ice with OJ.

Just wanted to know if that is a good idea and how did you guys manage with the Protein Shake??

Thanks in advance ✌[/quote']

Congrats and just keep sip, sip sipping....

Are you going the self funded path or do you have insurance?

Does your surgeon offer public? I went privately with my surgeon but know he operates on a specific number every year in the public system and I don't think it's more than a year wait.

I didn't think it was that easy to obtain the super for the ops, hence why I didn't even try. My hubby and I got a loan, (we had bad credit) it was very very difficult and came down to the sole reason being that one of the board members who sat approving our loan had the surgery six months previously and gave us a chance. We are making do now and I am so grateful, it is the best "gift" (our loan approval) I have ever received.

If you have debt and loans now, look into a top up loan, what is it going to hurt?

Good luck, something will pop up for you I'm sure

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
