Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Recommended Posts

After seeing that 1 pecan pie was almost 6000kj yesterday, I bypassed the cafe and went to Woolies and bought some plums.

I used to have 2 HUGE plum trees in my backyard when I was growing up and every year the trees would break their branches with the amount of fruit on them. We had 1 type that was great for eating and another type that was sour that we stewed. We had plums all year round.

So I bought 6 mid sized dapple dandy plums and over the course of the day, ate all 6. My tummy was so noisy last night I'm sure the neighbours could hear it. I can tell you that I had the best, natural detox last night (tmi?) and literally lost 1kg between yesterday and today. Long story short... It took me 3 weeks to have a bm post op, so if anybody is struggling, rather than drinking GROSE prune juice, eat the plums. If you're on purée or mushie stages, stew them first in some Water until they are super soft. It works. Promise.

So glad I walked past the cakes.

Hi All, I am home again...grounded to Australia for a little while now.

Sara, I agree it was a pretty crappy way for the trainer to behave. I would not let him slow you down, really the only person who can get you down is you. I would suggest working one on one with a trainer, where ever financially possible. They are able to see where you are at, and work you the best way to get fitter and more capable. My trainer that I had initially was great at working with me and also a support, but finding the right one is the key.

Kazza, as most the others have said, trust your sleeve and work at the pace. Staying hydrated is the key at first. Even with mushies only a t-spoon more than you capacity and it aint pretty ( i am sure we have all experienced it).

Seth, Angie, KelBel, good luck with the recovery I am suer you will rock it :)

Lila, way to go! Respect!

An update from me.

Had a good time gallavanting around New Orleans and New York, even with a broken ankle (which was not easy but can only imagine how hard it would have been if I was my previous weight). Got into a very small mardi gras costume (see below) which I could never have imagined wearing and feeling comfortable in. Met some amazing new people and reconnected with some of my really good friends.

Tommorow will be my 16 month surgervisary. Time really does fly when you are having fun.

I have been suprised recently by how much I can now consume in one sitting. I guess it is definitely a new definition of normal tho. For example, yesterday I was able to finish a rich piece of chocolate cake (in 2 sittings), I am able to finish most a sandwhich (not eatting the crust), half a burger, i even ate a whole McDonalds cheeseburger (which feels like a alot now right? Before a Big Mac, Fries and a coke wouldnt fill me up). I am not saying that I am always making the right choices but I am also well aware of the bad choices if that make sense.

Despite not being able to really work out for the last 6 weeks and eatting what i would say is badly I have not breached my weight barrier.

While i monitor my weight and what I eat now, it does not define me or my journey. I will try and loose the last 5kgs that are still here after the sexy boot comes of.

For now I look forward moving on with my life, where weight does not define me. I am looking forward to finding love, family....not necesarily in any order...long story there :)

Hi kazza, hydration is important, but as Puppyfat said try to add in some pureed food. It is tempting to stay on liquids, but when that happened to me my NUT advised that although tempting you need to move to the next stage. Every day will get easier and just just try small amounts slowly to avoid the trowing up. I am six months put and re,ember that stage very well hang in there and keep moving forward with your recovery.

I agree about moving through the stages Kel.

The other thing is that some liquids / puree's can be higher in cals, so wecan be doing ourselves a weightloss disservice. I found as I'd move through the stages my weightloss would get better because I could consume less while I was getting used to that stage.

It is wonderful to read everyone's notes. I am just starting this journey.. I find out next week the date of my surgery. I am so tired of being fat. Tired of the looks when I eat out, it's like everyone is looking at my plate to see if I am eating too much. I am tired of clothes that make me look like curly in the three stooge s. Very nervous, but I figure it's this or early death. I wish everyone successful in their journey.

Hey Carolyn. Welcome. Where you from? What surgeon are you using?

Hey Carolyn, Welcome!!! Congratulations on starting this journey. There are a lot of experienced 'sleevers' who are ready to help you out so don't be afraid to post! I laughed a little when I saw your post about people watching what you eat - the flip side (for me at least) has been people still watch but they are seeing how little you eat and harp on about that. Have to admit though I prefer that to the other!

Cheers, Lila

You know what I find hilarious (in a weird way), people used to tell me off for eatting junk food (cake, chocolate, chips etc)...those same people now encourage me to have some...

Ha ha - yes I can relate to this. I have a friend that has always been slim but loves her cakes - she is now saying 'will you share this with me'! Like I need to encourage my new found sweet tooth!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
