Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Recommended Posts

I just joined myfitnesspal too :) I am way under my suggested calories so I am going to have to try to work harder on that :( I love that it tracks my Protein etc though!

Lila, the Protein goal amount seems small. Should we be having more than others without sleeve do you think?

I use my fitness pal as well!I went in and manually adjusted my calorie, protein, and carbs goals based on my surgeon's recommendations. The app will tell you that doing so is dangerous but I am doing so under medical supervision so it is fine.I adjusted my cals to 1000 and my Protein to 25-30% which equated to 73gms which is between the 60-80gms my program recommends.I almost never get in the full amount of calories and protein though I am working on it but I am just 10 weeks out:)Hope this helps!

You're right - I didn't look at that closely enough. I will go in and change the settings manually as suggested :) Yikes, it will make my Protein levels even worse than they already were!

Kelliv, on the the other site that I belong to, they suggest calculating your Protein requirement by multiplying your weight by 0.8 (eg. 90 kg x 0.8 = 72 gm Protein) to get the required amount of protein to burn calories.

Congratulations on your loss so far and I am sure you will find a way to 'kick-start' the weightloss again.

best Wishes

I wonder what type of surgery James Packer had? He looks great after losing 35kgs. I've read that it was gastric bypass surgery and I've also read it was lap band. Interesting to know which one and Joe Hockey the politician also reportedly had gastric bypass surgery too. I wonder why they had that instead of the sleeve?

Hi Kelli - I have heard that James had gastric bypass and that Joe had the sleeve - I never trust the media as 9 times out of 10 the get the details wrong. It makes me curious though why do they do bypasses rather than the sleeve on some people?

Regarding your weight loss progress (which must be really frustrating for you). I was sleeved on the 18 July and have been loosing pretty consistently however now I am near goal it is very slow.

Over the last 25 days while on holiday I have even eating loads of bad food so I won't give that as my example of what I eat daily! When I say bad I mean potato chips, chocolate, fudge (I have developed a sweet tooth - lord help me!), ice cream to name a few! We got home last night and I jumped on the scales with fear in my heart but what a relief - I had lost 1kg! It was only 1kg over the whole 3plus weeks but I was relieved it wasn't a gain.

Normally what I would eat daily on a non socialising day is

Breakfast is two cups of tea and then Raw muesli with some Brazil nuts and lite milk - as much as I can eat which can be a cup on a good day or half a cup on a bad day.

2-3 hours later I have a snack of nuts - as many as I can fitii

lunch I will have some Protein - usually tuna, chicken, Salmon and some salad if I can fit it

2-3 hours later I will eat some more salad or a piece of fruit

dinner I will have chicken, fish and a green vege

2 hours later I will have some more Protein - usually what I left from dinner

Gee this sounds like a lot but you know how little we can eat. I also throw in at least one coffee somewhere - don't always have time to finish it. I try to drink my Water too but I must say that is a challenge!

Things I don't eat are - or if I do are usually only a few mouthfuls very rarely

Rice, bread, Pasta, Potato.

I can't handle any very dry meats like over cooked steak or chicken. I must say I am very texture orientated now!

I am no expert but I tend to agree with Lila - you may find that you are not eating enough - with me , I have found that eating every few hours helps and of course the magical Water always makes the weight come off - I am the worst at that! oops and exercise!

You are doing the right thing by going back to your dietician and just keep chipping away at it. I always compare myself to others too - I think it is human nature to do that as we have all had the same procedure so would all expect to have the same results! However we are all so different! You are looking fantastic Kelli and you have come such a long way and you will get off this last stall and start loosing again. I think what happens to me is because we are all throwing around these huge weight loss numbers I get a bit ammune to actually how much weight we have lost in the short time frame and my expectations are raised very high - I have to keep reminding myself that this is a work in progress and it will happen - even if you do eat a bit of crap occasionally!

I also try to tell my self that I have two legs like Hussein Bolt but I am NEVER going to be able to run like him no matter how hard I trained and I am never going to have a figure like Jen Hawkins no matter how much weight I lose!

Hi to everyone else - I am reading posts all the time so keeping up. I am on my fitness pal too but it makes me feel guilty about not exercising!!

Also the amount of Protein goes up when you add exercise.

Thanks that helps and makes more sense. I will go through my paperwork and see if I can find something which tells me how much protein etc and calories I should be consuming and the adjust. Cheers

Thanks Sue your comments are very helpful. I eat similarly to you but I do have gluten free bread, rice cakes and small amounts of Pasta, potato and rice. Maybe I will cut these put except for grainy GF bread which is important to stay regular. Cheers

Kelli, reading through the posts I was going to suggest that maybe you are even under eatting which can also cause stalls. But I see you have already got there. Sometimes to mix up a stall, I would allow myself a day or two of cheat food, or change up the exercise routine. Your body tends to get into a rythm and sometimes you need to shake it up to move a stall along.

You are doing awesome tho, give it time it will change.

Puppyphat, so sorry to hear you are back in the hospital. I hope you can recover quickly enough. My thoughts are with you.

SwiftKate, hope you are continuing to recover well from your surgery

Kalimom, you will be going to the hottest part of the country eh. We welcome you back..if you find your way in Sydney, feel free to look us up.

KellBell, welcome, hope we can be of help your journey. There are some great helpful people in here

Hi to everyone else!!!

As for me, after 2 weeks sitting on my butt and generally feeling bad for myself (eatting badly) I get my cast off tommorow and hope to be able to get back into some exercise regime again...bring on the moon boot. And thankfully it to date hasnt had too much impact on my weight (ie didnt put any on woohoo)

Aussiegirl, great news about getting your cast off today. Hope it's onwards and upwards (or should that be downwards! Lol) from here.

I have been trying to track my liquids with My Fitness Pal. Could someone please tell me how I change the totals of kgs, Protein etc. I have searched the sight and I'm sure it's something really obvious I have missed.

My surgeon usually sees patients two weeks post op but because of the long weekend I don't see him until three weeks post op (4 Feb). I didn't ask about when I could start driving. Also whether I can go into a pool, not for swimming but thinking Australia Day, we are having friends over for a barbie (Soup for me). Was hoping to have a gentle dip. My wounds seem to be glued over and it's fine to shower. Any suggestions on my two questions? As I haven't told people about my surgery it will be interesting to see how my non-eating is viewed. They know I have had a hernia op and I was thinking of just saying I've been quite nauseous since the op so just having some gentle foods to get me through my recovery....hope it works!!

Any advice re driving and the pool would be much appreciated.

SwiftKate, not sure how long the driving took. I am pretty sure by 2 weeks you are ok.

Have they taken the bandages off? I would think it would be OK to swim, if you are worried you could put the waterproof bandages on before swimming.

Good luck with the barbie. I would go with the feeling queasy after the op and see if people notice. Most people dont notince.

Woohoo! I am out of the 120's! As of today, I am 118.8kg! I honestly can't remember when I was this weight. Spoke to my dietician today - she is stoked with my weight loss but a bit concerned about my low calorie count. But she had really reasonable suggestions on how to increase it - now I just have to give it a shot :) Hope everyone else is going well!! Aussiegirl, I am glad to hear you're doing better. Kelli - hope you're feeling better and that the weight starts to move. Cheers, Lila

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
