Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Started my 4 weeks on soft food on mon!!! It's good to be off purée, nothing that tastes good looks good puréed lol! I have had a heap of stupid moments along my short journey, with 1 freaking me right out thinking I'd busted my sleeve. It was prob the kick in the arse I needed! I will definitely say this has not been an easy journey for me, struggling with eating. I was fooling myself that I'm fine now and can eat what I want (along comes reality check). This was also my first week back at work so I had a few hurdles there trying to hide my lack of eating etc and energy. I also had a heap of guys asking how I lost 18 kgs in 7 weeks, I hate lying. Anyway the longer I go the better its getting. Can't wait to get back into training.

Later

Scotty

I can't wait to get back into training as well. Looking forward to what it feels like much lighter. I'm expecting to lose a lot of strength, but what can you do.

I've lost 18kgs as well. I told everyone at work what I was doing. I was a little concerned about what the reaction from some would be like, but everyone's been really supportive. I in a Detective with the Queensland Police, so as you can imagine I have some pretty strong personalities in the office - pretty hard for them to say anything when I say things like "can't eat that since I've been gutted like a fish".

Mind you they've all seen my weight yo-yo by about 20kgs over the years, training like a madman and my weight slowly creeping up.

I appreciate the support. But if anyone did have a negative opinion, they're just ignorant.

Good to hear your travelling well,

Deano

Uh oh...buffet invite

My doctor says that he'd like to organise a pre Christmas Breakfast or a post Christmas breakfast gathering.

Options are for pre Christmas: Four Points by Sheraton in Geelong and post Christmas: Langham in Melbourne.

Both offer buffet breakfasts:

Sheraton: http://deals.fourpoi...aurant_Menu.pdf

Langham: http://www.melbarest...menu-270410.pdf

I said to the nurse who called about this that really it would be a waste of money for me as Sheraton is $25pp and Langham $40pp.

I know he'll be paying (I assume, as he's a bit of a tightarse...as he's a doctor LOL), but seeing as I eat so little, I'm not sure I should go.

Your thoughts?

If he's paying who cares! Seriously, I think it'd quite empowering to go and eat a planned amount of food and nothing else. Why should you miss out?

Yeah I'm assuming his paying. I just feel guilty with how much he's spending and I can only managed a bit of scrambled egg or one slice of toast with a bit of egg.

Went to see doc this morning' date=' she too is a little concerned. Blood pressure 92/67 and she said I looked a little pale...I said umm I have bronzer on! Just had all my bloods done, forgot to eat this morning as well so it has made me feel worse. Doc doesn't want me to see the nut again either....once I explained that nut doesn't want me eating over 400cal a day and I'm not to have anymore than a teaspoon of carbs a day. I have had my doc for 13 years, I think I'll trust her instead! Lol[/quote']

Your NUT is an idiot!!! 400 cal is the dumbest thing I've heard. You can survive off 400cal if you did nothing but sit on the couch and do nothing all day. You are going to lose weight regardless of how many calories you eat as its going to be less than what you're expending. You don't need to starve yourself and get all the weight loss over and done with by New Years. Trust me, you will feel so much better once your blood results come back and you eat the food your body needs. If that means milo with skim milk in the morning instead of coffee to boost your Iron, or a slice of high Protein toast with smoked salmon for Omega 3 and 6, then so be it. Screw the calorie counting. So long as you're making good choices, I don't see the need to be so rigid.

Sorry for the rant. I promise I'm not attacking you. I went to a NUT like that when I was fat and tried my hardest to stick to a stupidly small amount of calories per day and guess what! I couldn't maintain it. As soon as I started to eat normally, I gained about 20kgs. I hate "professionals" like that.

Hi all

I dont talk much but have just loved reading for the last few months.

I thought it may be nice to say HI !

My name is Melanie I had a sleeve as a revision from a slipped band. Had my band in 2009 and sleeve 9 months ago.

Starting weight was 120 kilos and now down to 77kilos. Or a size 20-22 to a size 12-14.

I have actually seen a few of your faces as I work in the weightloss surgery industry. (I want to make this clear so nothing can be said about me not disclosing)

I look forward to chatting more and following all your stories.

Wow, when I left the hospital, the dietician wanted me to be having 1400-1600 cal per day. Admittedly, there are many days when I only get about 400-500 cal in but that isn't by choice but by necessity. Your NUT sounds loony-tunes :) I'd give her the boot too!!

If it were me when I RSVP'd I say 'I've had surgery recently, so I'm not eating very much, but I'd love to come'

No need to feel guilty then.

Hi all-

Mel - welcome to our thread - there is some great company here and they have certainly kept me sane - mm I think!

Kayargh - those calories and carbs sound way to low so I agree with everyone else. The only time I really felt as unwell as you is when I first went on to normal food and I soon figured out that I was not eating often enough therefore not eating enough. I think you should eat something at least every 3 hours and don't worry about limiting calories. You doctor sounds like they are on to it so good luck with your tests and I hope you are feeling much better soon.

Scotty - you are not alone - the new way of eating is not easy. I think it will take a couple of years to get used to this new 'normal' and I am trying to always concentrate when I eat. Hopefully it will eventually become second nature and I won't eat too quickly. Some days are better than others when it seems easier to eat - still learning! All the best.. You must be really happy with the weight loss so far! Of course everyone will want to know your secret recipe for weight loss as they will want to do it too!!

Nessa - I was the same as you as I can't bare to waste food - think this was part of my problem! Also you want to get your 'money's worth'. We went to a work Christmas party and had to pay $60 per head our selves - I have just had to come to terms with the days of 'all you can eat' are gone and I am paying for the social occasion - just a change of my mind set which has been difficult as you are talking about a life time of being able to tuck in! By the way, the food was great at the party and I was glad I didn't miss out ! So go and don't worry about the food just enjoy the time out socialising - I managed to drink a couple of glasses of sauvignon blanc too which helped!

Welcome Melanie, glad you have popped in and said Hi. You must be so happy with your weight loss, so nice to be able to buy size 12. I'm down from 24 to mostly 18's now so just love it going down...it would be interesting to hear what you do in the weight loss industry (that's if you don't mind) as I'd be interested to hear how popular this weight loss option has become

I just paid $25 towards my Xmas party (I work in govt so we pay our own) and everyone felt bad that I'd have to pay that much and only eat like a sparrow they say - but I don't mind as it is for the social aspect. They line up for my left overs anyway so all good:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
