Thanks everyone, taste is no big deal to me (within reason lol) just thought I'd get all nutrients I needed n a size that's right. I'll give it a try n see how I go after first app with surgeon fri.

I did have a acupuncturist ages ago who fixed it first go, she moved and since have tried 3 or 4 others who charge a fortune but don't fix the problem. I'll keep looking :)

Well done Nessa! I am currently 400g from reaching 20kg mark, finally feel like I'm making progress. I am working at a resort I haven't worked at for 4 months, today heaps of people asked if my hair was different or new glasses or something, funny how people notice but can't put a finger on it. I didn't tell them that I had lost weight, I just agreed with whatever they asked! :-)

My daughter wanted me to put money on green moon, but I didn't have any cash, so didn't. Bugger!

Kayargh, I know what you mean. I've lost just under 20kg since surgery, and actually hit a bmi of 24 this week. I went into work in plain clothes, that aren't big and baggy, and no1 recognized me. Found out today that I'll be off work for at least 2 weeks, but could be a month or 2. Gotta love glandular fever :(

Kayargh, you just reminded me of a funny story.

I was coming through passport control on the way back into the country on the weekend. The guy at the counter asked me if I was wearing contacts cause i looked difference...I was like, um no but maybe the 70 kgs I lost could be the reason...just a throught...who knew all it took to loose weight was wearing coloured contacts.

Good to see you all are still going strong on the journey.

I have been waiting for the hairloss comments to start. I started loosing about the 4 month mark til probably the 9 month mark. I had a lot of hair to begin with but is really thin now. I now have alot of regrowth coming back in which is now like 7 or 8 cms long...so really thick hair on top but thin on the bottom. I am not sure that there is anyway to stop it, it is frustrating as hell but your bodies way of expressing what you have put it through.

Puppyphat, eek a month or two off work for the fever is no fun, hope you will be OK.

I am back in Aus, slightly injured but trying to work in some exercise that wont upset my back which is a new injury thanks to my vacation...guess it is back to walking for a little while. It is good to be back to my routine and able to eat fairly well.

Everyone is commenting on how good I look, which I think is due to all the new clothes, and that they have not seen me for a while....feels good.

Hi Deb, there are a whole lot of Australians in this forum. We are all over Australia and at all different stages of our journey. I am in Brisbane. Had my op on 14 August and down 22kg so far. If you have any questions, feel free to ask us. You may like to read back over some of this thread, as it can be very educational. Good luck for your surgery.

Lost 1.7kg since Thursday last week. Really struggling with not only nutrition, but Water as well. Had to go to hospital last night as I couldn't stop dry retching, hadn't kept any fluids down since Monday and was very dehydrated. I really don't think the drs understood the urgency to make me stop vomiting. I know I'm nearly 3 months out, but surely that stress on the sleeve isn't good. I called the surgeon yesterday, before it got that bad and asked about pain killers. He said I could take what I like so long as it wasn't anti inflamitory. I still have some Endone left from surgery and am considering taking that.

Has anybody had this before, pre or post sleeve? No1 can tell me how long it will last. The drs keep saying I could have symptoms for up to 6 months. I'm 66.1kg now, in 6 months, I'll be close to 25kg.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
