Lissa_S 787 Posted September 10, 2012 Hi all and thanks for your lovely posts. To anyone who has been freaked out by my experience know I am the anomaly not the majority. There was no reason or way to tell this could have happened beforehand and my surgeon has gone over the video with other surgeons who all agreed it should have been fine. The moal of the story for me is that they got onto my condition quickly enough and I am still here. There have been times through this that I thought I was going to die but at no point have I really thought I shouldn't have done it. The other options for my obesity were so bleak what else could I have done? Sitting here tonight I feel like nah I would rather be at home feeling ok than benign right here but if that was the case I would also be so desperately hopeless about any future change. It was also funnty to see my new sleeve in the leak test as it was like , yep they really did it. It's not a joke! Sadly the test showed a leak st the top of the sleeve which means I have at least three more weeks in hospital coming up and a move to the public system. Sad to leave this great hospital but it would leave me with a bill of over $60000 to stay. It also means I will have to have nil by mouth for at least another three weeks a d have a feeds g tube. This will give me nutrition as I am staying alive n I've fluids at the moment. I am hoping I will get a little more energy too. Ironically this keeps my weight ina holding pattern so on e this is all over and I am leak free I will start losing weight but nothing fr the next month...weird huh. Go a month without food and still not lose weight....only I could do that. I am not hungry at all but would KILL for a fanta ( which I hated before it is odd what you want in times like this) or ice cold apple juice. The mouth dryness is the absolute worst and what I am least looking forward to. Thanks again t everyone. I am hoping to be up for visitors in the next few weeks and would love to arrange for visits. At the moment I am falling asleep so quickly it isn't worth the effort as poor Juiie can attest to! Thanks again andI will try to keep in touch! Cookeeeeez 269 Posted September 10, 2012 Awww Lila! I'm so sad for you I'm glad they found what it was at least! I know a couple other 1%'s were saying it was annoying to be not eating but not losing weight from the tube one lady said she put on weight, but another (american) has said that the nutrifood is so expensive they had to get donations of it from ppl who stocked up and has leftovers I hope you have a safe transport! I was in Caboolture public for my pneumonia (albeit in their critical care unit) but I think as long as you have some support you will be fine- it seems to me once you're in the door of the public health system you're treated pretty well Maybe we should put those dry mouth swabs on the list to bring and take your time to recover, I certainly know how tiring hospital can be, and it's hard to "entertain" people from a hospital bed lol Either way you should let me know which hospital you go to, I'd like to send you some flowers get well soon!!!!!! kelliv 659 Posted September 10, 2012 Hi Lila, Not great that you have to remain in hospital, but thank goodness that you can move into the public system. Where will you go to and when? The sooner the better I suppose from a financial point of view. How do they fix the leak, or will it repair itself over the next few weeks? How strange that the doctors cannot work out why it has happened. Will your bariatric specialist still look after you at the public hospital? Please let us know whe you are up for visitors, as Shelley and I will arrange to come and meet you. Keep your chin up, the worst is now over. Kayargh 112 Posted September 10, 2012 Hey that's pretty darn awesome aussiegirl!! And kayargh: sounds like you're keeping too busy to worry lol soooooo cited for you!! And you won't let anyone judge you once your on the losers bench!!! I can see you like "I'm fit biatch! Clean my house for me then!" Lol mwahahaha the evil devil inside just waiting to get loose! Cookeeeeez!!!!!! You crack me up!
Kayargh 112 Posted September 10, 2012 Lila! If your sticking around then I def want to come and visit you!! I am sorry to hear of your leak but you are so right, they have found it, they can fix it now and you can get better. I have read that no one can lose weight with the feed stuff as it's exact calories that you need :-( but hey- your body needs all of them to recover, so this is a good thing. And I totally agree with you, not having this surgery is a far worse option. If I wasn't having this surgery, I would sitting on my couch with a bucket of KFC, chocolate in the fridge and large bag of chips in the cupboard....and none of them would have made it past the night!! Then I would go to bed upset, sick from all the food and dreaming of a day far far away when I would be thin and would never do this to myself. You can only live like that for so long before your body starts to pack it in!! sleep well my love and hopefully I can visit you soon xx 4 Lissa_S, Cookeeeeez, *Shell* and 1 other reacted to this

susie77453 32 Posted September 11, 2012 I have Protein questions! I'm sure there are plenty of threads already on here but for the life of me i can't find one that's helping! so I'm almost a week post-op and have been logging everything i eat and am only hitting about 25g Protein a day which i know is not enough! Surgeon told me to aim for 50g but I'm finding it really hard! I'm hitting 2L Fluid a day (about 1.5L water). I have one Optifast a day and then a mix of milked down yogurt, fruit and veg juice, chicken broth and up&go. So my questions to you all are: How much protein have you been told to aim for a day? and... what's the best Protein powder to get? I've been googling protein powders but I'm getting very confused! Are they like a powder that you add to Water or milk? or are you supposed to mix it through your food/drink? is there one that doesn't taste gross? Thanks all! Nessa1977 155 Posted September 11, 2012 Lila, at least now you are on the road to recovery after that hiccup. Every day will get better and you will get stronger. 2 Lissa_S and jules58 reacted to this
Nessa1977 155 Posted September 11, 2012 Susie, I too am lacking my daily Protein. I'm looking at getting some Protein Shakes but there are so many out there on the market.
ozeedonkee 145 Posted September 11, 2012 I've been doing a little pre-op Protein Powder label comparison. The highest protein/lowest carb formulation I can find is Atkins. And I actually like the Atkins stuff. It can be mixed with Water or milk. I think (from memory) it's at 30g protein/serve.
Cookeeeeez 269 Posted September 11, 2012 I'm a musashi fan and it's on sale at chemist warehouse right now!!! I'm ordering some slm to try coz my sister uses it but I normally use the N-force2. I mix it with mostly Water and a dash of milk. The vanilla tastes great Thinking of kayargh!!! Hope she's out of surgery now and recovering nicely
Cookeeeeez 269 Posted September 11, 2012 Oh and you can get pure whey Protein isolate from organicsaustraliaonline.com.au, but it's the instantised whey protein in most mixes that makes it not clump, and the flavours that make it drinkable
ozeedonkee 145 Posted September 11, 2012 I have heard the Musashi is pretty good tasting. I don't think it was as low in carbs - but we're only talking small amounts here! I might try the Musashi too
