Hi ladies! And gents :-) Question if I may....I have decided on my surgeon and have called to make a date- which I wanted as the 25th September as my children will be with my sister (school hols) however my surgeon is taking this time off so I have either the 11th September or the 9th October. My parents have their 40th wedding anniversary on the 21st October and it's 4 hours away (out west) which means I won't be able to attend, we will have family from all over the place coming. So I'm trying for the 11th September. He never gave me a figure to lose, just wanted me on pre-op for 3 weeks. I have already started but it will only be 16 days by the 11th. So receptionist said lose between 5-10kg and we will consider it- but aim for 10kg. Is it possible to lose 5-10kg in two weeks????

Hi Kayargh, sorry to hear that you couldn't get in on the date that suited you, but great news you have got one in early September and allows plenty of recovery time and off purée food by your parents anniversary and you will see a great amount of difference in your body and confidence by your trip.

In regards to the weight to lose for surgery, my doctor did not give me a number to lose, just wanted me on Optifast for 2 weeks, then on surgery day my surgeon asked me how much had I lost and I said about 5kgs as I still had dodgy scales. He said he was happy with 5kgs. So I'm sorry I can't help you anymore but I guess do your best and it will all go perfectly

I lost about 7 kgs on Optifast for 2 weeks, so, I guess close to 10 can be done. Just stick to it like glue and drink heaps and heaps of Water. A little exercise won't hurt either, but don't go nuts. I find when I exercise really hard I don't see a big difference on the scales, and thats what they're looking at.

I'm really bummed at the moment. I was asked by a group of work mates to go to the casino after work tomorrow night and I was really looking forward to it and excited to wear some of my old "skinny" clothes. I tried on 9 of my fave size 14 dresses and guess what!!!

They're too damn big!!!

I know that this is a good problem to have, but I'm nowhere near looking good in a 12 as my tummy and bust have disappeared (the boobs are always 1st to go) but my bum and thighs are still fitting into size 16 pants. I'm disappointed I didn't get to wear all of my beautiful dresses again, but happy that the weight is coming off. Just wish it would come off the areas I want it to.

I am doing two weeks pre-op with no weight loss goal stated but I know that i have lost about 4 or 5 kilos since I've been on it. I'm not doing shakes, just food so that might be why I didn't lose as much. I weighed myself on Tuesday so it could be a little more now but since I wasn't sure of my starting weight I've had to guess. Its noticable in my clothing (to family and close friends anyway) that I've lose weight...3 days to go :) Just sayin' :)

Thank u Puppyphat, although I am sorry to hear of your clothing issues! I get what your saying, u had a certain picture of what u would look like and now u feel that u won't look as good because of the uneven weightloss. But I'm willing to bet you will look absolutely beautiful in any ensomble you put together, just rock it with some confidence!! Stand in that mirror and tell yourself out loud how beautiful and sexy you are, with a big smile- sounds stupid but just try it- it may give u the confidence u r after. :-)

Thanks kayargh. You're exactly right with how I'm feeling. My mum actually said to me this week "oh no... Where have you're boobs gone? See if you can lose it from your bottom instead"

Gee, thanks mum. I'll do my best. "body, now you listen up. Put my boobs back where you found them and take my bum as ransom. Ok?"

I signed up for a slow and steady process, I should be very thankful to have reached "overweight" this soon and be a little kinder to body. It's working hard.

Hi., I lost 5kgs during 2 week pre-op but was told weight loss was not the focus of this stage. A pity the receptionist has put the pressure on you about this. Just follow the plan and i am sure you will be fine and as Shelley said, you will look ad feelgreat by the time of your party. The sooner the better I say! Good luck!

Oh nice one mum! Lol. Just find a good bra that supports them right and move on!!! If I ha my way my fat would leave my middle section, butt, legs and arms first and foremost, then arms and face and never the boobs....but I can guarantee my body has other plans! Yes your body is working hard and we need to love it through all it's changes, hard at times, but we are woman- good at living anything that gives us a hard time!! Lol much light and love to you and enjoy your drinks!!!!

So excited for y'alls imminent surgeries!!! Think how thin you'll be by the time I get mine done!!

I had my first really good day again today, I think it has helped to go back 2 basics, Cereal, sandwich, meat n 3 veg, fruit and nuts for snacks... And to take the pressure off myself- I mean I haven't been sleeved yet and when was the last time I stuck to being healthy for so long? A little hiccup three months out, but I have 9+ months & the rest of my life left to go!!!

I'm seeing reflexologist and physio again next week, hoping they can help with more of the pain as it has been putting me down in the dumps since it flared up last week :(

I can't wait to see all y'all new haircuts!!! I've always got half a dozen DIY dyes around the house but have been happy as a brunette lately. Also been afraid to show bald spot to hairdressers but need a cut pretty badly lol :)

Can't wait for next meet up!!! Good onya guys! And good luck Lila!!!!!!!!

Thanks Cookeez :) And grats on making hard changes! If it's any use, if you increase your Protein intake...if nothing else, it will help when you have to go off carbs for your pre-op diet !! That's what I wish that I had done lol. If I had I might not have had as bad a time of it early on in my diet!!!

It's so close now!!! Today is my son's actual birthday (last weekend was just his party with his mates) so I have 36 patty cakes to ice and decorate. So today should go really fast. Tomorrow is packing and getting ready to go and Sunday I am travelling to the Gold Coast.

So before I know it, I will be in the hospital waiting to have my op. I have to go to admissions at 7 am and they think I'll be operated on around 9am. Fingers crossed I will be back in my room by lunch time :)

Fingers crossed you have a private room that they let you shut the door of. Trust me, every single time they deliver meals to your ward you will want to keep that door shut and not venture out of your room until the trays have been cleared. The smell of the food and the sight of everybody else eatng is not ideal when you're only allowed 1 cube of ice an hr for 4 days.

I remember when I was only a couple of days away and I was so excited. This time will fly and before you know it, you'll be back on the ward resting, then back at home doing mum stuff.

Downer of a day today :( have still got a nasty cold and am on more antibiotics. Had my pre op appointment and was told that if I'm not better by Tuesday, I'll have to reschedule my sleeve on Wednesday.

Just hoping I'll get better soon! I'm depressed and therefor angry at brocollini and asparagus. So frickin sick of no meat or variety in my life! I guess I better get used to it though. Won't be eating anything like I used to for the rest of my life.

Sorry for the negativity. Just jack of everything today.

Hi Susie

I'm sorry your still sick and cross fingers you get better ASAP as can understand how disappointing it will be if your surgery is cancelled.

You will feel better once your surgery is done and I can assure you I am 6 weeks post op and can pretty much stomach anything and am satisfied with my small amounts. I am thankful that I have no interest in junk food, soft drinks etc and just want good quality food and now a healthy active lifestyle.

Keep us updated how you go, not much longer now xx

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
