puppyphat 397 Posted August 29, 2012 I experienced "dumping" today and boy isn't that an experience I never want to repeat. I bought a skim latte from a cafe and I'm sure they put full cream milk instead as once I was half way through I started to have the worst stomach cramps ever. I raced home where I spent the next hour in the bathroom feeling like I needed to throw up but only having very loose BMs. Went to bed as I was completely drained of energy. That was at about 2:30 this afternoon and I still feel like rubbish. I haven't had any full cream milk for about 6 weeks and was likely just too much fat in 1 hit. aussie kelloff 79 Posted August 29, 2012 Woops, I have had that with milk over the past few weeks, can't stomach any milk. Its great everyone is feeling better and doing better and excited about surgery (Lila). I had a good moment today also, over the past 4 weeks I have been wearing my old big uniforms, as alot were elastic pants and big shirts, but today we had casual dress and I wore clothes that fit better and the moment I walked into work everyone commented "holy crap you have lost lots of weight haven't you" such a great day. 20 kgs down now. Love my sleeve. 3 kelliv, Lissa_S and *Shell* reacted to this
puppyphat 397 Posted August 29, 2012 Love that Aussie kelloff. I went back to work still in my same uniform after 2 weeks and 12 kgs and everybody commented. Some asked if I had changed my hair as my face just looked different, others asked if I had had the flu. Do you coworkers know about the surgery?

Do you coworkers know about the surgery?[/quote'] Some know I had wls some thought I had reflux surgery, really only my closest work friends know. My dietitian gave me the idea of telling people about reflux surgery as it also helps weight loss. I have some really healthy and exercisey people at work that have never been big in there lives and are very judgmental, I have heard them say lapband and that are the easy way outs, so couldn't really be bothered to tell them the truth. Don't you live how they mention your hair when they know something is different.
puppyphat 397 Posted August 29, 2012 My work is the same. I told 1 workmate the truth and the rest think I had a bad gastric bug. I like it when people say to me when I tell them how much weight I've lost "oh it's such a shame you'll just put it all back on again". I just smile and say I'm just focusing on my health. And I am. I can't wait until I've lost enough weight to do something really dramatic with my hair so I look like a different person. 1 aussie kelloff reacted to this
Lissa_S 787 Posted August 29, 2012 Everyone pretty much knows about my surgery. I live in a really small town (to which I am related to about half the population lol) and I work at the hospital. My mates are the GP's that referred me and will see to my follow up care. I work closely with the nursing staff so my three weeks off directly affects them, so I told them too. We have a few of the judgemental people at work - super sporty, thin etc so I considered not saying anything but decided (in my case) what's the point? So many people already knew...so I went to the "worst" of the judgemental people and told her. She wasn't too bad - cautions, warnings were given...lol. But in the end, they've all been really supportive I almost passed out chasing a kid around the hospital campus (low blood sugar) and they were all so sweet and helpful. I've been really lucky. My whole family is supportive (?too supportive) - my mum and aunt are even doing the pre-op diet with me "in sympathy" I know they haven't been able to stick to it and it makes me feel good that I have (sans the bite of bread last night lol). In terms of my support, it can't be better. It's just my work - I am a workaholic. I work about 65-80 hours a week on average (yep, it's ridiculous) as I am the only specialist in my field in the area. I am on call pretty much all of the time. It's not conducive to healthy living. So a part of my plan is to reduce that to even a 50 hour week would be workable This will give me the time to make the changes I need to and to have time (and energy) to exercise post-op. We'll see how good I am at doing that lol. Congrats to Shell, Puppyphat and Aussie Kellof on your recent losses! That's an amazing achievement in such a short amount of time! 2 *Shell* and kelliv reacted to this

I've had the 'you look different, must be your new glasses' comment. Most of the time I leave it at that, as I want them to notice when it really is noticeable, but it's still a lttle disappointing after losing 15kgs in such a short space of time. My best friend and business partner is still ignoring the whole subject and hasn't even commented on my weight lose. This is the one I am really sad about, but kniw the issue is with her, not me. My friends seem to have all got the healthy bug now and say they love the new me and it has inspired them to eat healthy and exercise so the support I have from everyone is fantastic. As I have mentioned before my whole floor of about 50 know about my WLS. I am sure there are a few haters but no one has said any negative comments to my face and I have already made it known that others comments do not bother me in the slightest and that I am damn proud of what I have done and given myself an opportunity at life. In regards to changes - the 2 nd week after op I went and had my long thick red hair cut (middle back length) to short (as per profile pic). The hairdressers made such a big deal and kept asking if I was sure and I was so game etc. whilst laughing to myself and thinking if I can remove 80% of my stomach, I can surely cut off my long hair 1 Lissa_S reacted to this
sueoco 509 Posted August 29, 2012 Hi all Lila - all the best with the next few days and your surgery! I was interested to read everyone's comments regarding who and who they did and didn't tell about their surgery. I must be a total blabber mouth as I have told everyone who will listen - even shop assistants!!! The only reason I haven't told people is because I haven't seen them yet!! I have had one person tell me that they thought it was a bad idea and thought it was too drastic and now that I have lost 21kg they have not made a single comment about my weight loss - funny how people react. It is almost as if they acknowledge your weight loss they feel they are condoning what you did! What they don't realize is that I don't really give Jack about their opinion! Other people were just concerned about the risk of surgery but now they see me happy and healthy and loosing weight they are happy for me. I have a confession - I haven't been doing any exercise up until this morning ( old habits die hard)!! I went for a half hour walk and I did go out and buy some weights to start working on my flabby bits but I haven't actually used them yet!! The things I am doing right (I hope!) is taking my Vitamins and Calcium and not eating crap. I am also going to look into a suppliment that will help with hair health - any suggestions - I am dreading the Hair loss stage as I have thin fine hair already! That would be great - loose all this weight and be a skinny bald chick (chook really as I am 50!). Anyway, keep smiling everyone and keep posting - love seeing where every one is at with their journey! 2 *Shell* and kelliv reacted to this
*Shell* 162 Posted August 29, 2012 Love it sueoco. I feel exactly like you and have no probs telling people. I have been really slack with my Vitamins. I brought the liquid one to start with but confess I keep forgetting about it. I will go and buy tablet form today and will take it at same time as my thyroid meds. I should really look into something fore my hair as I agree, losing all this weight and being bald . So good xx

Lissa_S 787 Posted August 30, 2012 LOL it must be a timing thing...I have booked a hair cut and colour with the hairdresser four weeks after surgery It will be nice to notice the changes in the mirror rather than trying to ignore how incredibly unflattering the full length mirror at my salon is 1 *Shell* reacted to this
aussie kelloff 79 Posted August 30, 2012 I can't wait to change my hair, will be getting mine cut off and coloured probably as summer hits. Short and blonde. 2 *Shell* and Lissa_S reacted to this
*Shell* 162 Posted August 30, 2012 It's amazing how good you feel after a great new hairstyle and losing weight on top of it - you feel like a whole new person. Kelli - you'll have to upload a new pic after your haircut 1 Lissa_S reacted to this
