Ugh...not having a great day today...am feeling quite nauseated. Did anyone else feel like this on their pre-op diet? Or am I coming down with something :(

I had all kinds of probs on the pre op diet, I was quite strict and only had bars and steamed veggies tho. I had fatigue, nausea , headavhes and that wonderful (read not) ketosis taste. My body was definitely having withdrawals. It is the reason pre op for me was the hardest part.

Just try and keep focused on the end goal.

I've been pre-opping for a week today. I was sick all last week and so was at home on the couch! No headaches or any problems but my first day back at work today and I am feeling the lack of calories big time! My new mantra - just a week and a half to go, just a week and a half to go!

Chin up Lila - we can do it! Hope y feel better soon :)

Like Aussiegirl I was on the strict diet too - only meal replacements/salad/veges and only one cup of low gi fruit a day if I was really hungry. I found it really difficult and consider it the hardest stage in the journey so far as I was starving! I also felt unwell. Just keep crossing those days off the calendar an you will be at surgery day in no time - I was literally crossing the days off the calendar so I could see time ticking away! You will soon be on to the next stage post op and it is onwards and upwards from there ( I should say downwards as far as the weight goes!!). Good luck and just keep taking one day at a time.????

Thanks guy's - I had been feeling pretty good over the weekend so wasn't expecting to have the nausea hit me as hard all over again! I am like you, Aussiegirl - really strict with the eating (even managed not to lick my fingers when cutting my son's birthday cake on the weekend lol) and I think that is why it's so awful. But it's another day over today (today was my last really big day, nope second last lol, day at work) so things are looking up :) Going to keep on having early nights and just keeping my eye on the prize :)

Hi Lila, i am sure it feels as though time is going by so slowly, but the big day will be here before you know it. Perosnally I am finding the puree stage difficult, as i really hate the consistancy. Can't wait until I can have food with crunch/texture. Counting down until next Tuesday and then can at least have soft food for a week. Hang in there and don't forget to drink lots of Water, as it flushes your system and takes the edge off any hunger. At least afterwards you won't feel hungry.

So over puree!! Dreaming f food with crunch such as a prawn salad. 2 weeks to go, not that I could get something like that down at the moment! This not feeling hungry s strange. I do feel empty at times especially on first waking up in the morning, but it''s different. I was even full eating half a cup of strawberries and yogurt last night and could not finish it.

Me too!! I only just started purée yesterday and I'm already sick of it. Everything is such a waste. I make 1/2 cup of quick oats and can only eat 2 teaspoons and I can't fit anything else.

Oh dear, i hope it goes quickly for you. I tried the gourmet baby food in tubes and it is disgusting. fruit and yoghurt has been good and soggy Cereal for Breakfast has gone down ok, but other meals have been difficult. Have tried pureed beef, chicken and fish with vege but too heavy and sat in stomach for ages. Very uncomfortable!

Weighed myself this morning..................and I've gained. Excuse the language, but how the f**k can I have gained weight. Today I am 9 weeks post op. Granted the gain was only 600gm, it's still a gain.

How is this possible?

When was the last time you weighed yourself? I'm only 2 weeks out so I'm still obsessed with the scale and I will put on up to 1kg through out the day, but lose most of it overnight. Sometimes it doesn't always come off, but by the end of the week I'll weigh less than I did the week before.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
