It was exactly 10 business days after I submitted the paperwork. I called on day 9 and they advised me they were processing it and to call back the next day. I did, and it was all approved :) Was actually easy - the waiting sucked though :)

10 Days thats awesome, thanks Lila.

I got approval via phone on day 10 for some super. At first they rang me and said my doctors letter was not acceptable. I couldnt reason with them that it covered all elements but instead of arguing i drove out to doctor immediately and got a new letter and faxed it in. All this was done within 45mins from the first call. I called them back and confirmed they got the new letter and was told a further 10 days for further processing. I demanded that I speak with the assessor which he finally agreed. Anyway speaking to assessor I explained that my first letter covered what was required and that I work with legislation in government so this running around was unnecessary. He was trying to argue with me at first then said he would take a couple of minutes to look at it again, then within 2 minutes said he was sorry and that I was correct. So was approved ;) It was then about 10 days max for my super company to release the funds.

Omg! That is just the saddest story :(

Yes it was very sad. Gail was my Mum's best friend and she was only 60. She passed away about 18 months ago and her lovely husband has recently met a new lady and is slowly getting on with life. Just goes to show you have to cherish every day.

Yeah I heard that you have to wait like 2 years for skin to adjust after weight loss. I have a total of 50kgs to lose so just have to wait and see the outcome.

Just came back from an hours walk so ready for my crusket' date=' salmon and cottage cheese and aiming to get through a heap of Water today as I think I am dehydrated a little.

Going to go and swim a few laps of the gym pool tomorrow so really looking forward to that :)

It's great to see all the newcomers joining us on this great thread. I never even go on the other sites anymore as I get all the support and info from vst.[/quote']

I am the same Shelley. This site is the best for Sleevers.

Did the richness upset your tummy? I've never been a big chocolate fan, give me cheese & olives any day!

Hi' date=' I'm new on here. Have been reading for a while but this is my 1st post.

Here are my stats. June weight: 96kg

Max weight: 105kg

Surgery date 13/8/12

Surgeon: dr Craig Taylor

Height:162cm

Weight today, 6 days after surgery and 2 weeks of Optifast pre-op: 83kg!!!

Best decision I've ever made about my weight. I've been feeling so good the last couple of days. Finding it hard to get 1 whole Protein shake over a day, but am getting in my Water. Don't have much pain, or energy, am resting at the moment.

I was in hospital for 4 nights, and was so happy. No drains or leak test. I haven't used any pain meds other than Panadol since Tuesday afternoon, and not even Panadol today. So excited to be skinny!!!!![/quote']

Welcome puppyphat and well done so far. I am only one day behind you, as I had my op last Tuesday. Started at 107kg max, now 96kg for days after surgery, so very happy.

No it went down ok. It tasted sweeter than usual. I've been pretty lucky with food. Not much upsets my stomach. Oh yes, I

love kalamata olives with cheese. I almost bought a 3 olive dip yesterday but decided against it.

How are you feeling?

Hi Michelle, feeling really good, much better than I though I would 4 days ago. Had a relaxing day at home catching up on paperwork. Keep forgetting to eat and drink, so have set alarm on my phone 3 hourly from 7am each day to remind me. I had half a cup of cream of broccoli Soup for dinner. Think I ate it too quickly as I felt the dull pain again. Getting used to not drinking until 30 minutes after eating too. I keep forgetting and reaching for the Water glass. Determined to have 3 Opti shakes a day split into 6 during liquid phase as it's the only Protein I am getting at present, but only managed 2 today.

Hi Michelle.

Good to have someone close to me with surgery dates. How do you get 3 Optifast shakes down? I'm struggling to get one, and I'm sitting on it all day!!! I manage to sip between 1L and 1.5L of Water, but get a dull pain in my chest when I drink the shake (not sure if this is the same pain you had)

Yesterday I had some chicken noodle seasoning with hot water and that was ok, and I find that if I make hot chocolate with the shakes it's easier, but I rush to drink it while its hot and get the pain. (I know how to fix this, slow down!!!! It's hard relearning how to eat)

Do you have any pain? Ive been pretty lucky, I just have to be careful not to do too much too soon.

Lol at caramello koala!!! I have fallen in love with sesame snaps w dark choc on top- really have to be careful not to eat them (three in each individual pack) everyday! Although I suppose they're better than a whole giant bowl of icecream....

Congrats on surgery kelliv!!! You're making me yum for broccoli soup!!! And LOL @ your boobs!!! I've been saying that for weeks, mine just keep getting smaller, butas my body is starting to catch up I actually like them smaller :) because of weight loss I am starting to come off the heavy painkillers for my leg pain from bulging disc but still can't let up- wish my surgery were soon but will have to be patient!

I would love to meet up but as am not sleeved yet I would probably eat/drink sooooo much compared to you guys! Although you'd probably keep me motivated!!!

I was a cow to my skinny sis for getting plastic surgery but sometimes I think if the skin really got in my way I'd do something about it... Not sure but I'll keep more of an open mind than before...

Love you guys, congrats all, and welcome to the newbies!!!

Hi, I am experiencing EXACTLY what you are. I am only having 1/2 shakes 100mls at a time and sipping. Only got 3 of the six in today, but will try and build it up as we need Protein while we are healing. I get same dull pain in top of chest which is where stomach sleeve is sitting. I am sure it's because i am trying to get down too much too quickly. It's so hard to retrain the brain!!!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
