Just wanted to share a great drink I found.

Lipton Ice Tea Light.

I found 2 flavours in Woolworths. Lemon or Peach.

2 calories per 250ml serve

less than 0.1 grams fat

less than 0.1 grams carbs

less than 0.1 grams sugar

Makes a refreshing change to drinking Water all day :)

Hi Michelle, I would have thought these were full of sugar?? But doesn't appear so.

Hi Michelle' date='

I'm still just under a month away from my surgery but my work mate and i found these cool bowls/plates that might be usefull for portion size?

http://www.greatideas.net.au/index.php?cPath=2&osCsid=6218648c15e6ab9cd960cf265e29c0f6

I'm nervous about hitting that stage of the process too!

Susie

Hi Susie, these products look interesting. I will most likely purchase them in a couple of weeks when I get to mushy stage. Thanks for the tip.

Two days to go til op. Have handled pre op regime pretty well. Little hunger or headaches after the first day or two. I hadn't weighed myself since starting until today. I was 107kg at my heaviest when I saw the surgeon in early July. I was down to 103 a couple of weeks later after trialling Optifast for 5 days. I was the same weight when starting 2 weeks pre op and today I am 97. I am very happy but now have family and friends giving me a hard time saying if I can do it myself then I shouldn't have the operation. I know it is ignorance on their part as they are making uninformed judgements and really I don't want to hear their opinion unless it is positive.

Those of you who had the op' date=' did you have to fast from midnight the night before? I won't be operated until mid afternoon so my dietician said I should be able to ave a shake for Breakfast. Thanks

[/quote']

My op was 2.15pm. I was to have a shake before 8am, Water up until 10am then nothing from there on.

Congrats on your weightloss so far. Your family are right in a sense. We can all lose weight on our own but we cant maintain it, which is why we need this tool to help us :)

So excited for you. Not long now.

Yeah I was quite surprised to. Today Tonight ran a show last week about packaged food and drink that is reasonably priced and good for you. The ice tea light was on the list :)

Thanks Michelle, yes they are right in theory, but I don't know anyone who has lost significant weight and kept it off long term. I need this tool to help me do so. I know I could not sustain the pre op diet long term and I am sure I'd end up bigger than when I started.

Ah I didn't realize it was the light version, hence little sugar. I will give it a go. Which flavour did you prefer?

Some people (even those nearest and dearest to us) don't understand the knife edge we walk with our weight!

You are responsible for your body, you know what you can achieve on your own and it's a big step to ask for help when you need it!

At least by losing some weight yourself you know you can try even more when you have the sleeve :) and that you won't be like some people I've heard (on here and elsewhere) who just don't even want to try!!

Seriously, almost verbatim, I've heard a recent sleever say "soda makes my new stomach hurt, how can I get over this?!" or "what's the best way to stretch my sleeve? I want to be able to eat with the family at thanksgiving"

You can say to naysayers that the fact you can lose some weight pre-op just makes you a healthier candidate and the surgery less risky + more likely to be effective :) and boo to them :P

Good luck

Hi Kelli

I faced the same question from family and my surgeon was the one who answered it for me, he said sure you can lose weight on the shake diet but as soon as you return to food the yo yo diet will happen and the weight will most certainly go back on! Just trust in your own decision as its the best one for you.

When I had my op I had to fast from midnight I was booked in for surgery at 12:30pm my surgeon said that I don't want to risk having any thing in my stomach as if can cause you to vomit during surgery and you can choak while being under ( I didn't know until the day of surgery that they actually breath for you ) for me I would not risk having anything on the day.

Hope this helps, no matter what people say just trust in your decision it's your body your life and your future.

hi aussiegirl' date=' why are you back at hospital? i thought they did that test before leaving hospital? Is there more tests to be do e once leaving? thanks :)[/quote']

Hey weightnolonger, my doctor wanted to do some investigations as I still have issues with reflux, which should not be occurring this far out and have tried quite a few variations of meds. But the scope was all clear.

How is everyone's weekends going? I have a huge weekend of NSV's which I wanted to share. First last night I went to a christening and it was the first time some people have seen me in well atleast a year, so many compliments, and I got to wear a beautiful dress, not a tent.

Today I did the city2surf in just on 2 hours with a knee injury just after 1/2 way. This is something that I would never have done before surgery especially not in that time

H Lily, thanks for your words of encouragement. I have checked and need to fast from 6am. Don't check into hospital until 11am and op not until the afternoon. I will have a shake early, then fast from then on. Cheers Kelli

Thanks, I am up on Tuesday, so one day to go. The 2 weeks pre op has gone very quickly as I have been so busy with work and moving house. I intend to pamper myself a little tomorrow with a massage and movie. Want to be relaxed for Tuesday. Starting to get a little nervous now.

It's amazing how quickly the time is going. I am three weeks out from my surgery and am feeling a little jittery :) I imagine I'll be quite stressed the day before although I will be travelling for 10 hours to get to the Gold Coast for the surgery...that should keep me occupied lol.

Good luck for Tuesday - I look forward to hearing how you go!

Cheers, Lila

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
