I'm finding it really tough to control my portion size. I'm constantly taking one mouthful too many and ending up in all sorts of pain for at least an hour :( Any tips? I'm trying to only make what I think I can eat but my mind is obviously way off. I think I can eat 100grams fish when really I can only physically eat 40grams. This stage is really hard to get used to...

Hi Michelle, I can't offer any advice sorry, as I am not there yet. I think I will struggle with that stage as well as I am used to eating large portions. It will be a mental challenge.. Would visualualsation work? Or meditation?

Hi Michelle

I am at exactly the same stage as you and know what you mean - I haven't had the pain but I have had the feeling of something being stuck-hard to describe actually. My dietician told me that I would only be able to eat a third of a cup of food down at one time. She said to eat very slowly, half a teaspoon at a time and put the teaspoon down between bites. I find that if I have the slightest hint of feeling full or the bite doesn't feel like it went down well, I leave it for 5 mins and come back to it.

Just finished my 3rd day of the muchy stage - each day is getting slowly better and I am just telling myself to take it slowly and I am trying not rush things and learn about which foods go down better than others. I tried to blend salmon and Pasta but it didn't go down well, I think Pasta is just too glugy for me at this stage.

I had a bit of a cry on my first day of eating muchy foods - I think I was kind of mourning the way I used to be able to eat - I think it is a common feeling. It is a big adjustment getting your head around how little we can now eat. My clinic included a session with a pyscologist, which I didn't think I would need - changed my mind on that one!!

I don't know if any the above helps, but just wanted to let you know that I'm with you! :-)

Thanks Sue. It really is tough. Cooked fish and eggs aren't my friend at the moment. I'm going to stick to tinned tuna, yoghurt and organic baby food. I'm trying to take it slow but slow means really really slow :) Thanks for your advice. We will get through this, its just going to take a lot of retraining, mentally and physically :) enjoy your day.

Hi Michelle,

I'm still just under a month away from my surgery but my work mate and i found these cool bowls/plates that might be usefull for portion size?

Thanks all you've been great,

Im gunna look into the Weight Loss Solutions as I have no idea where else to look. Its a bit daunting especially since I am so far away. I have questions...How long till I would be able to go home?? I would have to fly ( I could drive but that would be a fairly big trip), what are the costs and appointments that I would have to fit in in 1 trip??

Lol, me being me I've done some research whilst typing this...lol.....Hopefully will get a call from Weight Loss Solutions to find out more.

Excited, bit scared, excited, nervous, excited

Scotty

Thanks for the link Susie. I'm definitely going to get myself one of those portion plates. I handled my food a lot better today. Just kept telling myself that I don't need anymore food. It seemed to work, so I'll try it again tomorrow.

Today's diet:

250ml feel good iced coffee

250ml ProteinFX shake

4 slices of Bega so slim cheese (high Protein, very low carbs and very low fat)

Half jar organic bolognaise baby food

2 clix biscuit with cottage cheese & tuna on top

Water throughout the day

Hello everyone,

Michelle I am having a similar problem, I am 4 days into my mushie stage and also find it really hard to eat slowly and also the amount. My dietitian advised me to only dish up 4 tablespoons and then eat with a teaspoon. It's so hard but most meals I don't even get through half before I start to feel stuffed and then a little sick.

I really thought I would be able to eat a little more but I haven't been able too. The best thing is I have not been hungry.

I know we will be able to do this. Good luck.

A question for all that have had the sleeve done. Is anyone getting really dry skin? I know I am getting my Water in but still have a dry mouth, very dry skin.

Hi aussiekellof, I'm the same. My mouth is always dry. Almost as if I am dehydrated even though I drink nearly 2 litres of Fluid a day.

A dry mouth is a symptom of ketosis. Ketosis is a result of a low carb diet. It also causes bad breath and a heap of other symptoms. Refer link below for further info. Hope this helps :)

Just wanted to share a great drink I found.

Lipton Ice Tea Light.

I found 2 flavours in Woolworths. Lemon or Peach.

2 calories per 250ml serve

less than 0.1 grams fat

less than 0.1 grams carbs

less than 0.1 grams sugar

Makes a refreshing change to drinking Water all day :)

I was just saying last night to my sister that I'm struggling with Water. I just doesn't taste right, if that makes sense. I was going to get some cordial or lemon juice, but I'll give iced tea a go for the odd glass.

I'm struggling to drink even 1lt a day.

I bought the peach one today. Its nice served icey cold. Like any low cal drink, you get the artificial sweetener after taste though.

If you get the lemon one, let me know what you think of it. I will try that one next.

I've read a few posts where people have said Water doesnt taste right after surgery, so your not alone there :)

I'm planning on dr hatzifotis in Brisbane! I'm in Caboolture aka Cab-Baghdad! Lol

I've got HCF but getting some back from super (not much as I'm still a young one) and saving over 12months pre-existing count down...

I don't want band as lower weight loss and slippage rates- plus I've already had major ab surgery for gall bladder and seem to tolerate gas well :) lol

I'm on pre weight loss kick, tvsn's whey less vanilla tastes fine but it's xylitol doesn't dissolve so sometimes a slight gritty taste- aldi slim choc shake tastes like brownie mix (seriously!!!!!) but higher in carbs than others- getting musashi vanilla ( their diet is actually higher in carbs than their n-force brand)...

Also ordered a bunch of hippie eastern medicines, swisse Vitamins, and flaxseed, LSA mix, wheatgrass and barley mixes to add to shakes...

Anyone tried kinoki detox foot Patches? I ordered some and can't wait to try them... Also swisse liver detox supplements with turmeric are meant to be good!

Good luck my Aussie sleevers!!!

Two days to go til op. Have handled pre op regime pretty well. Little hunger or headaches after the first day or two. I hadn't weighed myself since starting until today. I was 107kg at my heaviest when I saw the surgeon in early July. I was down to 103 a couple of weeks later after trialling Optifast for 5 days. I was the same weight when starting 2 weeks pre op and today I am 97. I am very happy but now have family and friends giving me a hard time saying if I can do it myself then I shouldn't have the operation. I know it is ignorance on their part as they are making uninformed judgements and really I don't want to hear their opinion unless it is positive.

Those of you who had the op, did you have to fast from midnight the night before? I won't be operated until mid afternoon so my dietician said I should be able to ave a shake for Breakfast. Thanks

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
