Hi Kelliv' date=' each surgeon is different and I was on clear fluids first 24hrs, then fluids like drinking yoghurts, Soups etc, for 2 weeks then I can go on soft/mushy foods for next 2 then can eat normal at week 4. My salmon today was very soft and shredded into the tiniest size possible. Going to go and buy a receipe book on some ideas.

Thanks Shelley, it's strange how it varies so much. I like the sound of your program more than mine!

Actually I've just re-read my diet plan and its the same as Shelleys. Week 2-4 is soft/puree food (deli meats, fish, puree veg, cottage cheese on crackers, Weetbix etc) and from week 4 can start reintroducing preop foods (chicken breast, steamed veg etc).

Just have to ensure everything is chewed really well.

Glad I re-read that, now I'm even more excited for Wednesday :)

Hi Ladies' date=' does anyone know if the Mushashi drinks are gluten free please? Also I am allowed non starchy vege and salad during prep, but do you know if I can include avocado? Love it and it helps ake salads more interesting. Thanks, kelli[/quote']

Hi kelli v

I was told I couldn't have avocado as you could only have a tablespoon of any fat a day but I would check with your doctor or dietician.

Thanks Sue, will do, although I think I'll just avoid it altogether. 4 days in and not very hungry. Headaches have also disappeared. Already getting tired of salads and veges. Need a few new creative ideas for preparation.......

I found the pre-op diet the most trying period! One of the things I cooked was stuffed mushrooms - I stuffed them with finally chopped veges that I liked included a bit of garlic salt to season and baked them in the oven - used my tablespoon of oil allowance too. I then had these with a green salad. It at least gave the illusion that you were having some meat!! I then had my Meal Replacement bar or shake for desert!

Preop is definitely the hardest part of this journey. liquid diet post op is so much easier..Hope everyone is doing great. I'm day 11 post op and returning to work tomorrow. Can't wait :)

Hey everyone,

I am day 13 post op. yay. Saw my dietitian Thursday who said I can start to bring in puréed food tonight. 1 meal today, 2 meals tomorrow and then Tuesday I will be on puréed for 2 weeks. Can't wait.

Am planning Shepards pie for tonight.

I also go back to work tomorrow. I still get really tired in the afternoons, anyone else have that problem. Hopefully that will pass on e I start eating food.

Hope everyone else is going well.

Kelloff

Just had my first meal. Had Shepards pie. It was awesome. I ended up eating about 9-10 teaspoons of meat and potato.

I have actually got the full feeling, that I never got on the liquids. I have had a little gas, and did think I was going to vomit, that's why I stopped. But nothing. Was told by my dietitian to look at the clock after I finished and 30 mins later I can then have a drink.

Michelle its a different satisfaction. It's a funny feeling. I know I am full and I know I have only had such a small amount, but to be honest, that's all I felt like anyway.

Usually I would eat 2 plates full then feel stuffed. I do feel satisfied as I have eaten food. About 45 mins after I had a drink. I don't feel like anything else. I feel really satisfied. My husband is here eating dessert, but it doesn't interest me.

Its a good feeling.

Hi kelloff, congratulations on moving into purée phase. Silly question, but was the shepherds pe puréed? I am a bit confused about what constitutes purée and mushy. I thought purée was no lumps, but can't image that with shepherds pie?? Good luck for your first day back at work tomorrow. Kelliv

My notes from my dietitian calls this next stage not puréed but minced and mashed foods, so as long as its small and coated in sauce/gravy etc and you can chew it up heaps then it's ok.

I can have Pasta, baked Beans, mince, fruit ( without peel, that's still soft and can be chewed small.

Just wondering what diet your dietitian have given you?

I have just looked through my notes from the doc and dietician. Doc's notes said liquid x 2 weeks, puréed x 2 weeks and soft x 2 weeks. I am talking to my dietician on Thursday, prior my surgery next Tuesday to go through plan post op. No doubt I will find out more at that point. Will let you know what aim advised. I plan to stick to rules as I don't want complications.

Ok help me out. What's a good multi to get and has anyone heard of spariluan Protein?

Still in my liquid stage post op but I CAN NOT swallow one more bloody chocolate shake. I am having Soups and runny tuna mornay. I think I had my sweet teeth removed as well as 2/3 of my tummy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
