I hear your dilemna. I was doing very well without drinking soda. About two months out of surgery I decided that drinking Diet Pepsi is not such a bad thing. I would fill the cup up with ice and twirl the straw to get the acide out. The support group that I was going to (mostly gastric bypass patients) served soda. I did not have any problems digesting the soda. About a week ago, I had this moment of truth and asked myself WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING??? I have since stopped my one glass of Diet Pepsi a day. I so do my soda. I think most people would miss drinking alcohol, I miss my Diet Pepsi. I am totally exhausted without the caffeine. The past two nights I've taken Trim Spa hoping that the ingredients will wake me up. No luck.

Bye the way, my husband is from Bandon, Or. Are you close by???

Good luck. I am suffering along with you.

Christine

Hello,

Yeah, the no soda thing is one of the lamest things about the band for me. I accepted it when I got the band and have been very good about abiding to the rule but wanted to get other peoples experience and deductive reasoning too. I know I can live without it but it annoys me. I'll definitely have to try to find some new and different things to drink. Bandon, OR is beautiful! Have you ever gotten up here for a visit? We live about 2 hours from Bandon but enjoy going there when we get to the coast. Best of luck to you, Teresa

Hi Christine - I thought the same thing only I was drinking regular Pepsi or Mountain dew - about 3 20 ounce bottles per day. It was really rough giving it up in the first few weeks and now I don't even miss it. Sometimes I do need a pick me up - and I don't like coffee so I grab a fruit 2 O - Citrus Energy Burst. Not sure if you've had it or not but it's the flavored Water with Vitamins and it does have some caffeine in it for a "kick" and the thing about it is like with the soda once the effect of the caffiene wears off I don't feel all sluggish.......maybe the Vitamins that are in there?? Anyways, it does work for me and thought that maybe it would help you. I am happpy to say that I haven't had a soda in about 7 months and quite honestly I don't miss it either!!! Best of luck to ya and hope you find something else you can substitute for your soda!!!

Thanks for your suggestions. I really am having a very hard time not drinking at least one glass of soda. I promised myself tonight that I would investigate the h20 w/caffeine. I will let you know how it goes.

I always drank diet soda so it was never a diet issue for me. Once I got banded I didn't touch any for the first few months. Lately I've started drinking it again but I leave the soda open for quite a bit so it looses most of its fiz ;-)

I talked to my doc and she said that the issue was more discomfort, I always thought that the gas could damage the band but she told me that wasn't the case.

I had my first fill last Saturday and while talking to the doctor he said Diet sodas are okay. I said REALLY??????? He said they are okay but the best way to do it is to put ice in a glass and then pour the diet soda in over the ice. The ice takes out a lot of the carbonation, so he said. I haven't done it yet but I might since he said it's okay.

YAHOO! I just went for my second fill and the doctor reiterated and said diet pepsi is fine. Yeah!!

I hope nothing is wrong with me but I can really feel my fill. I went from 1cc to 2.3cc. I hope that is normal. I probably have to get used to the tight feeling

Carmen, I've just discovered that fruit 2 O Citrus Energy Boost too...it's the bomb!!

Fruit 2 O is a great product, ladies and gents, but a little hard to find. All the flavors are delicious. I highly recommend them!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
