I am 11 days post op and haven't been sleeping much at all. I'm lucky to get three hours a night, wondered of anyone else had the same experience and/or suggestions.

Is there a specific reason that you know of keeping you from sleeping? Like incision pain when you turn over, or are you still taking pain meds? Or do you just "wake up" and can't get back to sleep? I had trouble because pre surgery I was a tummy sleeper and it took quite a while before I could flip over and sleep comfortably.

I've seen a lot of people post about needing a light sleep aid...

I've been taking benadryl 25 mg which is the main ingredient in the over the counter sleep aids. diphenhydramine. It helps me. Hope you get some sleep!

Thank you all for your suggestions. No serious issues that keep me from sleeping like being sore or anything. I have trouble going and staying asleep. I have tried Ambien twice and it did work. I'm scared of the Benadryl because my physician told me to be very careful and not dry out my sinuses because it would affect my sleeve.

I think I might call my physician tomorrow just to ask for suggestions and about Ambiem since I have sleep apena.

I have chronic insomnia so I've been taking Ambien for many years. I also have sleep apnea and have been able to take it without any issues.

In the two weeks right after surgery I had some wicked insomnia that Ambien couldn't even help. When I asked my doc he said that my body was dealing with major surgery and extreme diet changes and that could lead to insomnia. Thankfully it passes after two weeks.

I myself haven't been able to sleep as I'd like for one not really tired and secondly not being able to sleep in my normal position, which is my tummy facing the bed. So what do I do? Should I tell my doctor to prescribe me some ambiance. I was also wondering could it be because all I drink is crystal lint energy, could this make me sleep deprive?

I don't know how many of you all know I too was taking ambien and studies show how dangerous taking this medication over a specific time could be very dangerous

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
