I'm in Cleveland and just starting the process. I met with the Surgeon at St Vincent and have started my 6 month supervised diet that my insurance company wants me to do. This just seems like its going to be forever now that I have made the decision to have the surgery.

I was a self pay so I didn't have to wait for anything. I think you just have to be really patient and avoid over eating because you know your time to eat less is coming so you trying to get it all in now (I guess they call it having a food funeral)....it will just screw you up psychologically after I know this because I did it and a few of my friends have as well.

Hey, I was just asking you about pre-ops at Cleve Clinic in another thread! Did you decide to go self pay? How did you get approved so fast??? :)

I am a very persistent person so I would call everyday to get a same day appt instead of waiting until my scheduled appt. Then when it went to my ins I called them constantly so I was able to go through all my spots in June it was submitted to ins July 5 and approved this past Monday. I asked for the soonest surgery appt and was told to start my liquids the next day.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
