Completely normal post op reaction. I was told to expect it at around 3 days. It's due to many things, change, the op itself, anaesthetic, other meds, hormones released. Don't worry. It gets better. I'm five and a half weeks out and I still have bad days, but mainly good ones.

The hormones are incredible after surgery, so it could very well be caused by that. You could also be going through a reaction to giving up food because you're on a liquid diet. Sometimes it takes our minds a little while to catch up with what our bodies are doing. You could also be reacting to the anesthetic from surgery. That, by itself, can cause some mood swings.

Have your cry, then get up and do something. Shower and do your hair if that's all you can manage. If you're up to a bit more, do a load of laundry or some other small chore that makes you feel better about your environment. If you have a bit of energy, go do something... a movie, sit on a bench at the mall and people-watch, whatever floats your boat. :)

I sometimes get to the point where I just don't think I can deal with ONE MORE THING... and the above is how I deal with it. I hope it helps you feel better.

It seems that depression is very common post-op. If your symptoms last longer than what you are comfortable with have a talk with your doc. For me I was suffering from chronic depression pre-op so I was already on meds but even I started gaining symptoms post-op. I know it's rough but hang in there as it should pass.

I woke up crying on day 3 and couldn't stop. The next day was better. I had one other depressed day about 2 weeks out. I just got myself on meds because I have a history of depression. That may or may not be the choice for you, but please know I felt the same way as you for no rational reason and the feeling did go away. Talking to my bestie also helped.

I had a couple weepy days too. I'm 8 days out now, it's still hard, but no more crying! I'm trying to look forward to all the positives now. :) hang in there!

I had it on day 3. I was sobbing, it was terrible! I came home that day and it changed everything. I do have depression but not like that! I was so happy to be home with my pets. Find your happy place, it will pass. If it doesn't in a week, I would call your doctor

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
