I hear you. It is a complete bummer and something that I though I would completely handle pre-op. Now I'm on the other side I realise just how much I did sip when eating. I think Protein Shakes make you thirsty too. I don't know how you get used to it, but apparently we will. I did make the mistake once of taking a swig on something too quickly post meal -and it was VERY uncomfortable. I hope you get used to it soon.

Hang in there, it can be done. I'm pre-op but I knew this would be a big deal for me. I'm the three refills of tea girl at restaurants so I started practicing. Now I don't drink during the majority of my meals. If I do drink, it's just a few sips. You can do this!

Lol, yes it does get better. Im also a drinker and im used to drinking while eating. Im 6 weeks post op and i have gotten passed that because i dont like the feeling of puttin water on top of the food id just eaten. I will make me miserable! Besides that, i want to get full off of the food so that I may stay full longer. Hang in there!

I have came to the realization that I can not drink when eating. If I drink before I am full and do not get but a bite of my meal at the most. If I drink direclty after i am like tabbmarsha I will spew like a valcano also. Last night me and the BF went out to eat and I just decided the lnly way I will not drink while eating is just not to order anything. Waitress was kinda confused but it worked for me so it is what it is for now.

I've been practicing (pre-op) at not have a drink with meals and I've gotten used to it. The last time I went to a restaurant I did sip the Water a little because it was there so I think the trick is to say nothing to drink even if they raise their eyebrows. I am somewhat concerned though if at a later stage I am able to eat spicy foods like buffalo chicken or salsa, how it will feel not to be able to drink to quench my tongue :D

Before my surgery I loved spicy foods, now not so much. I usually avoid them all together probably for the same reasons that have you concerned suz. I just can not drink and eat or eat then directly dirnk afterwards. It is still tough for me but I am learning on a daily basis what I can and can not tolerate.

If you eat & drink at the same time you get full faster and the stomach does not absorb as many nutrients from food as it does if there is no liquid there. The food also washes out of the stomach faster, so you get hungry sooner than without liquid. I read a post the other day on here where someone said someone (I forget if it was a trainer or doctor or nutritionist) told her they actually give the same advice to non-WLS people because it's actually healthier for anyone to eat that way.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
