I actually have that book. I think I will sit down and read it. (Bought it 2 years ago, LOL) I have a week before my classes start so this will be my last chance anyways.

Michelle,

You can get Dreamfield's Pasta online at there website www.dreamfields.com , they sell by the case there or they have another site that you can by there Pasta by the pack. It will also tell you if any other stores in your area carry there pasta.

currently

i do defintally eat lower carbs. i have learned the advantage of that. the sugars in proccessed white starches trigger my hunger and sweet cravings. i buy the low carb pasta although the store i used to buy 'dreamfields pasta' at quit carrieing it. where are you getting it?!?! i use unbleached flours, eat unproccessed foods, lots of veggies and i eat leaner meats. i personnally try not to eat much out of a can, freezer ready or anything thats open and eat (except fruits). its good because you have to chew more to eat your food and i think eat less. especially for us banded folks- we have to chew the heck out of it to get the texture right!

I followed the induction phase of the Atkins diet for over a year. Actually, what we (most of us anyway) eat is not at all like the Atkins plan.

Low carb was just part of Atkins, about 60%. The other big part was hig fat intake, which was critical to the plan as he wrote it. (Unfortunately "Atkins" has become synonymous with "low carb", and people use it that way, not even realizing they're essentially ignoring half of the plan). High Water intake was another aspect, but not as stressed as the fat intake.

I'm sure there are some, somewhere, but I don't know any bandsters who go out of their way to add extra fats to their diet. Someone once said that the band is a medical way to stay forced to follow Atkins, and that's simply not a generally true statement.

Now Atkins aside, focusing on "low carb" -- not really. I eat low carb b/c I feel better when I do. And I try to get healthy carbs from Beans, whole fruits, etc. and avoid starchy carbs. But I'm no where close to being back on Atkins, even though my carb intake is what the Atkins plan calls for.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
