Surgeon Consultation Fee?

I went for my initial consult. The one where they just decide if you're a candidate, discuss surgical types, health/weight loss history and rcvd a script for reflux tests. Does this consult normally cost $481??? This has got to be a mistake in billing. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I obviously can't call the docs office til Monday.

Mine was in the $400 range. Around $450, as I recall.

I'm self-pay.

My surgeon consult fee got waived, when I paid my nutrition class $500 and psych eval 175. (what a joke those were).

Good grief..a specialist consult is an average of $50 copay w/ most insurers. How can they charge 4-500?? I see why Mexico is so appealing.

I assume you're self-pay? I just had to give them my copay. Of course, I now have a $400 lab bill because I have a deductible. So I guess I'm paying the same.

I have Anthem. But havent met my deductable yet, my employer pays 1st half of 2500, I pay second half. They paid the full amount out of that account, rather than the copay. Anthem paid nothing. It just struck me as strange or that there was some mistake but maybe not according to the consult amounts paid by others.
