Don't Understand Why I Can't Keep Anything Down?!?

Recommended Posts

Help!!! I was sleeved on 4/12. For the past 2 days almost every time I eat, it comes back up. This varies from just spitting up to many times full on vomiting. I am being careful not to overeat. I have noticed things I normally tolerate like Protein Shakes, Isopure, etc now nauseate me to even think about them. Have anyone else had this happen. I'm very concerned. Not getting anywhere near Protein & calorie requirements.

I had the same issue and still do on some days.

I followed dietitians orders and found a Protein I liked before surgery and afterwards, I hated it! They made me physically I'll and I couldn't keep them down.

I will vomit up and entire meal if I eat too quickly, eat the wrong thing, or don't chew enough. This happens more than I'd like. I have issues eating at the table with my family. I find myself eating at their pace and by that time (even if only 3 bites in) it's too late and I will be sick. They say never to eat near the tv but it keeps me focused on something other than the food and I eat slower that way. Actually, I'm eating right now and this post helped me pace myself....so, thanks! Lol

Just remember - every journey is different and we can only do our best :)

I'm stating the obvious here, but have you called your surgeon? Sometimes not keeping food down is an irritated sleeve or general illness but sometimes it's a sign of stricture. Please call if you haven't already.

I personally have not experienced this but my doctor put me on over 30 days of nausea meds 2 different kinds actually and I asked why so many, and he saod as the sleeve is healing it may not tolerate what it used to in liquid phase. I may do fine on solids for awhile, but then all the sudden not do well. So i needed to keep up on it. Otherwise I may start throwing IP and can't keep it down. He said I may have to stay on it for months. I don't know if that goes hand and hand with u. I would defiantly let ur dietitian or doc know just to on the safe side. O hope it gets better soon :)

I went back to work 2 weeks after surgery and was having the same problem. The Dr. had given me generic Xanax for spasms and since I HATE to take medicine, I quit taking them right after coming home. Everything I ate or drank came right back up. The Dr's office told me I was having esophageal spasms. That's why he had given me the prescription. So I took the medicine for a few more days and they stopped. Hope this helps.

I am almost 9 months out and I still have this happen to me if I eat to fast. .... if I dont pay attention to how fast I eat I can get sick super fast.

I also have the ability to vomit without sticking my finger down my throat....this sounds bad, but I find it very helpful when I feel like I have overfilled by accident. I just squeeze my stomach muscles together and out comes the food that is causing the trouble. there isnt any stomach acid mixed in thankfully so it tastes the same as when it is going down, and doesnt burn my throat.

sorry if this is tmi for anybody, but I tend to tell it like it is. truth is my tummy is still a baby and I am just still learning what I can and cant do. I also continue to suffer from the desire to eat just to eat, and not because I am hungry. this surgery isnt a magic trick, I totally understand what they mean by it is a tool to help...not a cure.

I'm not sure that I got that before surgery and I am still kinda figuring that out now. Still have the overeaters mind :(

but I am in no means saying anything bad about the sleeve.....it definatly has been doing its job well. :)

good luck on feeling better soon. definatly talk to the doc :)

Are you on an acid reducer? If you have a lot of acid already in your stomach trying to put food in on top of that will be just like overeating.

Did you go back to clear liquid for a day or 2 that is what I was told to do if I started vomiting also dr. gave me a med to take if vomiting started. getting enough liquids in very important so concentrate on getting them in or dehydration will cause even more nausea. Do you take a previcid daily most of us are on that since surgery.

Thank you so much for all the advice! I restarted my Generic Zantac & zofran for nausea. Drinking Gatoraide for electrolytes (can't tolerate plain Water or flavored). If things don't improve quickly, I will call the dr. Thanks again for the input!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
