Nope! I am pre op but my surgeon said it was fine to continue getting my nails and pedis done too. Some surgeons require you not to have any nail polish or toe polish on but mine said it was fine. I colored my hair last week and getting mani pedis tomorrow with a friend to get ready for surgery!

Make sure the hospital allows nail polish during surgery. I've never had a surgery where you were allowed it.

Nail polish on toes and fingernails are almost always a no-no during surgery for many reason but the biggest reason is that though they use a pulse oximeter to check for oxygen, nurses, doctor's etc. don't always rely on it, sometmies they come off, sometimes there may be an issue with it and the quickest way to check your blood oxygen level is by visually looking at your fingernails and toenails for blue pigmentation, indicating a large drop in oxygen.

Nail polish is also a fire hazard and you don't want to catch fire on the operating table. We were not allowed to use conditioner or deodarant the night before or day of as a fire precaution as well.

I go for my pre op pack and testing Monday so I am sure I will find out then. Who tells you guys all this stuff? My surgeon is the head of the bariatric program at the hospital and told me it was fine....but, I haven't spoken to anyone at the hospital yet. I wonder if they will go over all that when I register at the hospital??? Seems like when I had my gallbladder surgery I had the same requirements you guys are talking about but I recall being told that when I registered at the hospital. It was 10 yrs ago...and my memory isn't as good as it used to be...LOL

I knew it was too good to be true!! LOL...I am still going to get them done tomorrow. I will look cute for 10 days then scrub them off...no harm no foul...and it will get me outta the house and not thinking about surgery all day!

Amen to that. I had to take out all my piercings too. As soon as I woke up, I put them all back in. Lol

Funny how all the medical dramas on TV (Grey's Anatomy) the surgeons are all decked out with mascara, gloss, so much hair product! You go to a real hospital and it's nothing like that!

I have my eyeliner tattooed on so it worked out nicely for me. I have 2 earrings I couldn't get out without alot of force so I left them in and they made me sign a paper saying they aren't responsible for any burns I get. In regards to hair dye I've been paranoid with that and hearing my hair could fall out. So I decided to leave it undyed for a while

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
