**please Help With Protein Question**

Recommended Posts

Is there any way Protein can be heated or cooked?? I'm in liquid/blended Soup stage. I have heated my soup and let it cool some. I then added 1 scoop unflavored Protein Powder. As slow as I'm eating now my soup is really cold again. Can I nuke it to make it warm again? It started out being 8 oz but after adding the protein and some chick broth I now have way more than I can eat. So I would like to put it in the fridge and finish it later but I don't want it cold! What a dilema!

Unjury has a specified temperature. I'm still post-op but I'd think if you didn't heat it pass the suggested temp you should be okay. What kind of Protein are you using?

Yes Unjury says not over 130 degrees, so I used a food thermometer. That temp is just warm. I think if you refrig and reheat though it might clump up which you may or may not like. You can blend again though. It is a pain in the buttski!

Dorrie - is that Isopure vanilla one of those clear drinks in a bottle? I've never heard anyone mention that one. Where did you get your recipes? eggface?

I used a thermometer as well and found letting the Soup get up to 140-150, then bringing it down to 130 with some cold Water for some reason made it stay warmer longer. Maybe it was all in my head. The Protein still clumped a little even at 129, but I could always break it up and mix it with a spoon until it was creamy and dissolved. Sometimes I'd also try getting it nice and hot, eating some of it at the temperature I liked, then added the protein as it cooled. That way I at least half enjoyed my meals! Good news is that this stage passes in a flash, then you're on to getting normal hot meals again!

Yes,it's Isopure vanilla powder. It tastes really good too. I get my recipes from eggface and youtube. They are delicious.....

Dorrie - So it's a vanilla powder, not a drink in a bottle? You mean a container like all the other Protein powders? Where do you purchase it?

My NUT said to get a mug warmer so I did. I actually got two of them, one for home and one for work when I go back. I use the Unjury chicken broth and actually like it just barely warm. I've used the warmer here at home and it keeps the broth just perfect. Will most likely work for thinned Soups too. I got my warmers at Bed, Bath & Beyond. maybe that will help if you can get one.

newfoundlove - does your Unjury chicken broth have a layer of foam on top?

Yes a tiny bit but dissipates when I stir or twirl it for a second in my mug.

That is a great idea! I'm gonna go out and get me one. I'm gonna order me some Unjury on Monday (payday). I can't wait to try it. I'm just really having a hard time with the taste of Protein powder. I am trying to disguise it but I just can't seem to do it!

Joni -- I can't stand that foam!

Me neither that's why I asked. So many people like the chicken Unjury, and I just couldn't take it - mainly the foam and it also had a strange taste to me. I'm having a hard time with all the Protein products now. I can still tolerate Unjury Vanilla (which I think is the best around). I like to mix it with orange crystal light or just milk too. Defnitely not cheap though.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
