it matters what type of job you do. desk jobs are back within a week. I am a trauma nurse in a large urban emergency room. I was not allowed back to work untill I was able to perform my job 100% including lifting more than 50 pounds. I was given 4 weeks out. Hope this helps

I teach High School - My surgery was on a Tuesday so I had the rest of that week and the following week off. I wasn't in any pain when I went back, but that first week I was CRAZY fatigued. The only 5 days of this school year that I left "on time." I went home and slept every day that week and still slept good at night. (I'm NOT an afternoon napper so my husband was pretty sure I was dying that week).

I was back to work 6 days post-op. I am a Financial Manager for a large law firm so its mainly desk work. I only went back 6 hrs a day for that first week but now I am back full time. The hardest part is that you are tired and weak from the lack of calories.

I'm a professor and went back to work after 10 days. I really should have taken a month. Most people need 2-3 weeks but as Lauranbob said, it all depends on your job. Just be forewarned, if you go back early you will be very fatigued. This is why I wanted a month off.

I was given 2 weeks off and they didn't even ask me what kind of work I do, it just seemed the standard. I work sitting on my butt so it's back to the grind on Sunday for me.

I only had a week off. My job is a combination of sitting, standing, and walking. Two weeks would have been nice but I felt ok, just tired.

I had surgery April 24th and am scheduled to return to work May 10th. Even with a desk job, my surgeon recommended to wait until after my 2 week follow up (May 9th) before returning to work.

Had surgery Monday. Went back to work 6 days later on Sunday. Not a physically strenuous job.

Just had surgery May 1st. My doctor said I could return in 3 weeks but I took the entire month, just to concentrate on me. I have an easy desk job, but I wanted to be sure I take time and get used to the new changes.

My surgery was 11-14-11. I was off until 11-28-11 but I was cleared to go back on 11-23-11. My boss was kind enough to tell me not to come back on Wednesday the 23rd (which was the day before Thanksgiving) because we would be getting Thursday and Friday off for Thanksgiving. I had no problems going back to my job, although I was tired as well for the first day or two, just getting back into the routine. My job does involve a lot of desk time but I also do some standing, walking, and minimal lifting during my work day.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
