Richmond Virginia Sleevers Around?

Recommended Posts

Hello! I just had my consult with the NP at St. Mary's. I selected Dr. Bautista as the surgeon as I went to his seminar in July. I have already finished up my 6 mth req with PCP. I'm scheduling my psych evaluation and then nutritionist visit. The NP told me it would be about 8-10 weeks for Aetna to approve. Do you think that is reasonable or could it be sooner?

I'm excited yet nervous!

I had aetna and i was approved within 1 day so hopefully it will go quickly. Might depend on your employer as well. What part of richmond are you in? Good luck with your surgery when u are approved! ;-)

I live in the Powhatan area. I received a follow up letter with a request to provide more info. I sent all that in on Friday and received confirmation that they had enough. I have an appt with nutritionist on Thursday and the psych eval on 4/17. Seems like forever, but I'm hopeful of a quick response from Aetna and then scheduling surgery.

2 shakes (from the approved list or that meet the same nutritional details) and a sensible meal of lean Protein and veggies.

OH GOOD!! Thank you so much. I thought it was liquids ONLY, no food. Are we allowed to have veggies or fruit throughout the day? I have some highly physical days during that period (martial arts camps) and we sweat for two to three hours so I know those days will be miserable without some sort of nourishment.

I appreciate it!

I was told you could eat as many veggies (raw and steamed) as you wanted, so that may help. I'd talk to the nutrionist during your pre-op class and ask her. There's probably something you could do, maybe even adding another shake or bar.

Hi there! I'm in Midlothian and went to the info seminar at St. Mary's Hospital yesterday. I've been considering WLS for awhile, but because I would have to be self-pay, I held off hoping the insurance exclusions would change or who knows what else. I was considering Mexico (Dr. Acevez), but the cost of doing it here along with some other variables made it a better choice. I had every bit of confidence in Acevez, and I feel that whichever surgeon I'm assigned here will be good as well. Our speaker was Dr. Nathan Lee and while he is younger, I was impressed by his credentials, experience, and knowledge. I called to schedule my first appointment today and I'm hoping to have surgery in December if I'm lucky!

Laura

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
