What Foods Should I Eat One Last Time B4 Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I am just over a month away from my surgery date. I don't intend on gorging myself with last meals, but is there anything I might want to have that I won't be able to eat for awhile after my surgery? I have heard steak is hard to digest & crunchy foods like salad. Any recommendations?

To be honest, with the sleve there is not really anything you can't have. It's all about the moderation. I consume mostly Protein, once in a while I may treat myself to something sweet. I am 6 weeks out and I have had steak tacos with no problems

Yes but it will definitely be awhile before you return to normal things. Depends on what your favs are.... If I choose for you, lots of pizza and cheeseburgers, and salad! That's what I miss the most.

bread, for sure. I haven't had bread in over a year. Don't honestly miss it at this point, though--I miss the "fact" of it more than the taste of it, and the convenience factor of just grabbing a sandwich. It's all totally worth it, though, and you may not have the same issue with it that I do. :-) My "last meal" was, in fact, a cheeseburger and fries from Wendy's--I am not proud of this, but that's what it was. I think it had bacon on it, too. And we wonder why I needed the sleeve, LOL. It was good at the time.

I'm thinking some Bagels from Panera are in order! I love asparagus & I bet since it is fibrous,it should be on my "eat" list b4 surgery too.

salad and raw veggies would be my suggestions since it will be awhile before you can have those. I agree with bagel too, I have been craving one!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
