Is it gas in your stomach (i.e. feels like you need to burp), or "gas pains" in your torso/shoulder area?

The only way to get rid of it is to have it absorbed into your bloodstream. The more you move, the more your bloodstream moves, the more ...

Whatever it takes to get your blood pumping. You choose. Walking, leg lifts, twists, dancing ...

The best for both is walking, and heat usually helps quite a bit.

For the stomach/intestinal gas you can try something like Gas-X. THey don't do anything for a lot of people, but others swear by them. They contain simethicone, which sort of foams up and breaks the surface tension of gas bubbles. Kind of like sticking your finger into the foam in a glass of Coke. You can also try natural digestive aids like carrot juice, peppermint tea (great for many stomach ailments), and papaya enzyme (chewable).

For the shoulder "gas" - that's largely a waiting game. Your surgeon will probably tell you to walk, maybe use a heating pad, maybe take your painkiller. The latter two don't work nearly well as the first. Heat & deep massage always helped me, a little.

My heating pad was my best friend for that. I had it attached to me for the first few days. Helped very much. Good Luck!

OMG I can't believe I forgot to post this earlier. So many people have found this helps (for the surgical gas pain).

Lay down on your left side with your right knee & thigh drawn up to your chest. That's it. But it helps an awful lot of people. (I think it's a recommendation out of the mayo Clinic, IIRC)

That's right I found out that while lying in bed if I do bend my knees a little against my chest but no too hard because of the pain that help me a looot on the gas release ;)

I hear alot of Gas-X strip users.

Once I had a BM my gas released. But that didn't happen til I took in ALOT more Water than I was initially drinking.

Your body's circulation works best when you lay on your left side. Do that and curl you knees up a bit.

Hope you'll have relief soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
