I've been reading on here from everyone that they've been trying to get their Protein in. My dr's plan didn't have any protein included and when I asked he said that if I wanted to, I could add one but he was more worried about me trying to eat. Does that sound right? Also, could that be the reason I'm seeing slow weight loss. I'm only eating 3 times a day and drinking Water. (Food is still on full liquids for another 3 weeks)

Interesting... I've never heard of a surgeon putting food over Protein and fluids. How far out are you and what are you considering "slow weight loss"?

Early post-op, it's more important that we get our fluids in than our Protein. I'm hearing that your surgeon wants you to stick to the liquid diet and try a variety of full liquids rather than get dependent on Protein Shakes. Am I understanding that correctly?

Oh the fluids come first. But had to ask about Proteins. And I'm two weeks and one day out and about 11 pounds down. I lost 20 pounds on the pre op diet in 12 days. That was with 3 Protein Shakes a day.

Yes Lissa, you are correct. Get fluids in most importantly. He wants to strive for 6 bottles of Water. I get more like 4 (16.9 oz)

Missing a bit of Protein won't kill you. Not being hydrated will. :) But the good news is that Protein drinks usually count as Fluid, so you can kill two birds with one stone.

FWIW, your weightloss is not slow, IMO. Even after your pre-op loss, you're still maintaing over 5 lbs per week, which is well above the statistical average.

I'd still add in the Protein liquids either in the form of the 3oz Protein Shots or Protein Shakes. It promotes lean muscle mass and helps the body adjust to the change

It's all a game of numbers and reading your body.

Get your Water in!!!!

When you eat make sure you eat Protein first, vegs second and then you wont have room for carbs.

For those that have carb issues like I do.... don't even have them on your plate. They are no longer an option until you get to your goal weight. Then they will be your final bite.

If you want to learn more tips and tricks from an 8 month-er that has learned a lot send me a message. I am also a skype coach that helps with menu planning and support via phone, skype and in person here in Tampa.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
