walesmary 2 Posted May 3, 2012 Had VSG on 4/20 and have already lost 20 pounds. Problem is I'm hungry and want to eat real food. Protein Shakes are a little more tolearable, and have progressed to soft cheese and yogurt. But I'm wanting something more substantial. Am worried I will not be able to sustain this stage of pureed and soft foods a full 6 weeks more. Anyone else had that problem?
paulsgirl1297 18 Posted May 3, 2012 Are you drinking lots of fluids ??? Cucumbers are a good choice for crunchiness I hear but I guess you can't eat that yet can ya
Swimmer 199 Posted May 3, 2012 I loved refried Beans at this stage. Can you have oatmeal?
lmitchell40* 5 Posted May 3, 2012 Hello, I have not had my surgery yet (6/20/12) but you are doing great! You can eat soft puree food for 6 weeks you do not want to injury your stomach. So drink plenty of water/protein shakes you can have soft fruit or try mashed potatoes in a week. When you feel like you are hungry take a walk the exercise will help in your recovery. Please do not give up! 1 Bigfluffsmom reacted to this

topgun 63 Posted May 3, 2012 I pretty much tested a lot of different foods when I was at your stage and found I could tolerate more than just pureed foods. Don't stray too far from very soft, mushy stuff and don't sample anything in quantities of more than a tbsp or so in case your sleeve rebels. Your sleeve will tell you what it can and can't tolerate. Eating real food is one thing, but you'll never be able to eat "real quantity" like you used to enjoy. I've developed a sort of "what the heck" attitude about food because I eat such small portions. Food is just not a big priority anymore and a big, juicy steak is not in the foreseeable future for me, ever. Sigh...... BUT meeting my weight goal is finally just around the corner. 6 more pounds and I will no longer be considered obese! 1 Looking Ahead reacted to this
walesmary 2 Posted May 3, 2012 Thanks for the support and ideas. I know I'll be needing lots as I go along.
Gene1970 179 Posted May 3, 2012 One thing to always keep in mind is that prior to having the sleeve (which I don't have yet) if you wanted to cheat on a diet... well you just cheated and there were no consequences. This is different and you need to constantly remind yourself of that. You could do some serious damage if you try to eat the wrong things too early. The risk of damaging your sleeve by trying too much too early is not worth it. 6 weeks now... a lifetime of happiness!!! You can do it!!!! 1 iwannabslim reacted to this
Lyra 43 Posted May 3, 2012 Try watery grits with a bit of butter spray. I had a few days where my sleeve was really grumpy but I could get the grits down. It was one of the yummiest things I had ever had, lol!

My wife got a "prescription" for that from her surgeon after complaining about having difficulty with ground beef; we still refer to a trip to Outback as refilling her "prescription". The sleeve helps reset our priorities to quality over quantity. You are right about testing small amounts of new thing - that's one of the hallmarks of our doc's program which is otherwise on the liberal side of things progression-wise. I was able to tolerate more things more quickly than my wife could when she went thru this a few years ago - YMMV Congrats on your pending "overweight-edness"!
