I am a 49 year old married woman. I have been heavy all my life. I NEVER had attention from men. No one ever flirted or even made eye contact. My fat made me invisible...until now. And I really don't know how to deal with it! I get all kinds of attention from men and I am so surprised. I am still a good 50+ pounds to goal, not svelte by any means. I am a little baffled and amused by the attention. Someone asked me for my phone number today! That hasn't ever happened before. I feel like a teenager, but even teenage girls know how to handle this. It seems to be a life lesson I never learned. I know in the grand scheme of things this is not a problem, but it is perplexing! Any guidance?

Well... are you happily married? j/k

I missed the flirting gene, I think. I think ppl are just being nice. I don't think I will ever recognize flirting, no matter how in-your-face it is. And I will never EVER assume any interaction is flirting, I don't think. I've had other people tell me someone was flirting with me and I really don't see it... I just thought they were being nice, or it was a coincidence or something. Most of my friends are guys. I relate better to men than women. So maybe I'm just too influenced by the male inppropriateness of everyday things. :) I don't know. And on the flip side, I've been "just being nice" with guys and had their wives get defensive, or I've been asked, "Are you flirting with me?" when to me, it was just meaningless joking around.

Advice - maybe just learn to smile and point at your wedding ring.

Smile, graciously accept the compliments and keep it moving. :) if you weren't married I'd say flirt back! You're probably oozing confidence (even if you don't know it) which makes the guys crazy. Soak up that you'll never be invisible again. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
