I am 5 weeks PO. I will be meeting a friend at MiCocena tomorrow. I am on "soft foods". Do y'all have any suggestions as to a good choice for me besides Beans and tortilla Soup. Would it work to get a cheese enchilada and only eat the inside? Thanks for your suggestions. :-)

I love refried Beans. Are you allowed any chicken at all yet? If so, ask for some cooked chicken and refried beans. Not grilled chicken, most mexican places have chicken that's been almost stewed with Tomato and peppers. That chicken is pretty soft.

I think eating melted cheese would be ok... is it all that is in it?

My friend and my surgeon told her today to stay away from Beans because of the amount of carbs they had in them. She had been eating a little here and there and he told her to stop.

Rodswife, I don't worry about carbs. Refried Beans were my first mushy food and I could only eat about 2-3 bites before I was full. There's some Protein in Beans as well. As I've gotten further out from surgery, I've found that I need complex carbs in order to maintain my energy levels for working out. Protein has to be our first concern, but carbs are okay in moderation.

Even if the OP orders refried beans and stewed chicken, at 5 weeks out, she'll probably eat 4 bites of the dish. My biggest worry with beans would be gas issues, truthfully! :)

I wish I didn't have to worry about carbs. Lol I'm carb sensitive and don't lose if I go over 25.

Are you pre-op? If so, have you been tested for diabetes? One of the newer theories I've seen is that those who are carb sensitive (I was one) are usually pre-diabetic..and I was as well. I lost weight on Atkins twice, so I'm familiar with the PITA that counting carbs can be. Once I was sleeved, I didn't count carbs, etc. but I didn't add a lot of them in either. Now that I've ramped up my workouts, I've realized that I have to have some of them.

For me, refried Beans don't cause me to have highs and lows like simpler carbs, such as bread, do to me. I do try to keep my carbs lower and my veggies raw if I can stand the raw ones, but I don't count carbs like I did when I was on Atkins.

From reading others' posts about PCOS, I suspect I have/had it as well. Thank goodness I was sleeved when I was! IF not, I'd probably have the entire alphabet covered in co-morbidities! :)

Hopefully yours will improve as you continue to lose weight! :)

Thanks, me too. It did the first time I lost 100lbs so I am optimistic this time as well. The only difference is that I can not get pregnant again (6 is enough lol) and I had this surgery and will never allow myself to gain it back.

Thank y'all so much! I feel more confident about my choice now. :-). Yes, refried Beans are on my "approved" list of foods and they are yummy. :-). I can usually only enjoy about 1 ounce though. I am LOVING my sleeve! :-)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
