Here's My Introduction. Brand New To Vst!

Recommended Posts

Hi there everybody!

I'd like to introduce myself here and then follow up my introduction with a great big thank you.

My username here is MovingTowardNormal. I am a 40 year old school teacher in Sacramento. I was "sleeved" on February 21st, 2012 - Ironically that was Fat Tuesday!

I have been over weight most of my life. I was also always an avid athlete. It's a pretty weird combination but it seemed to work. I have been considering bariatric surgery for perhaps a decade because that combo really wasn't working...

In that decade, I have gotten a masters, degree, traveled around extensively, got married and lost and gained about 300 or more lbs. In November 2011, I visited a friend who lost 180 lbs with the DS 10 years ago and my decision was finally made.

People who I told (I only told a handful of folks) asked why I wanted to do this. My answer to their query was always the same, "I want to be free."

I love food. I love to cook. I love a good game of tennis. But I painfully craved freedom...Freedom from my breasts falling into my neck as I posed in downward dog; freedom from the horrors of an airplane seat; freedom from inner thigh chafe and so on.

I first sought support at OH and while I'm sure it's a useful platform for others, it wasn't exactly right for me. So here I am! And so far, so go. My experience here has been outstanding!

At the beginning of this this I said I was going to give a thank you...Thank you, all you VSGer's who are here. Here to support each other with the same goal and the same procedure. We likely have the same struggles and similar outlooks on things. I feel safe here. Thanks!

I have a blogspot called Moving Toward Normal (http://movingtowardnormal.blogspot.com/). Come and visit me over there sometime!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
