Mab 44 Posted May 2, 2012 You'll eventually poop - I think it took me 4 or 5 days - some of us it took a bit longer. It's hard to get that full feeling on liquids, but should become easier on solids. I don't think you're going to hurt your sleeve by drinking too much Soup unless it happens to be super thick and creamy- remember that counts toward your daily liquid goal. You would know if you had a leak. Are you experiencing any pain? Fever? Nausea?
kimmy*custis 276 Posted May 2, 2012 Yeah, it takes a while for the first bowel movement so dont worry. Drink as much as you can, your body will tell you when it has had enough. I believe you would know if you had a leak, you get sick feeling I believe, like mab said, any fever or serious nausea?
MSVEEKAYWHY 6 Posted May 2, 2012 had my surgery on monday too & no BM yet. I have the same problem with not feeling full. but then again. i'm not starving either. i'm starting to think im just over-thinking it . . .
marimar 32 Posted May 2, 2012 How are you doing with the liquids? I did have my surgery on the 30th as well and is being hard my esophagus hurts everytime and feel like a lot of bubbles coming up.
MSVEEKAYWHY 6 Posted May 2, 2012 i can keep everything down. but im not drinking as much as i think im suppose too. what i was taught to do is finish 1oz of liquid over a 15minute period. i find that if i dont do that, my chest starts to hurt. &according to my weight, i should be getting 80grams of Protein in a day. but its looking more like 40gramd right now. beautifulnewme2012 164 Posted May 2, 2012 My surgeon says liquids are slider foods. That's why you don't feel full...when u progress to mushies you will feel the sleeve working!
barrbdoll 287 Posted May 2, 2012 It took me 9 days after surgery to have a bowel movement... and honestly.. I wouldn't call a "marble" a movement!! LOL BUT.... Constipation was a problem and I had to take Milk of Magnesium to even get the party started.. I am 16 days post op and am pretty regular now. But the first and second time I went??? OMG..... I was strugglin..... OUCH... Good Luck!
nikki82 147 Posted May 2, 2012 I'm 6 dys out myself and didn't have a BM until 3dys post op. I guess that's good considering the length of time some of you all have gone. I feel the same as you as far as not feeling full on liquids, but like the ladies said .. it's a filler food and real fullness won't come until some food with consistency enters our stomach. But I do have a question as far as Protein goes. 50-70 grams of Protein is needed daily, but how am I supposed to get that when all I'm consuming is broth, Jello and Clear Liquids? I'm confused by this or does this apply to when we start the "mushy" stage of food? Please weight in guys..thanks
elizabethp 0 Posted May 3, 2012 Well i havent had a fever yet.. I do have more pain on my right side where the big insicion is.. Its hard for me to move that side of my body too ex: reaching for my cup or the remote.. My left side feels fine .. No extreme nausea only when the nurse at the hospitAl made me take my depression pills that i take since my grandpa died in late febuary even after i told it was ok i didnt need to take it.. U see i cant chew or crush them so i had to swollow them.. It hurt sooo bad.. And i wonder if that could have messed me up.. ??
Katie713 423 Posted May 3, 2012 Nikki82...go to GNC or Vitamin Shoppe and get Isopure. Its clear Liquid Protein with 40 grams in 20 oz bottle..they have alot of flavors I liked grape frost. I even saw some at Rite Aid one time but they always have it at the other stores I mentioned. There are also clear Protein powders in fruit flavors, nectar has a good selection. Protein is imperative to healing. Good Luck!
