Finding Myself 146 Posted May 2, 2012 I was telling my husband that the last time I lost any significant amount of weight was in 2005. I didn't keep it off for more than a year or so (I lost about 45 lbs). At the time, I had a few people ask me if I had cancer or something. For pete's sake people, I was 140 lbs and I'm only 5'2 and still needed to lose another 15 lbs (or 10 at the very least). I was really, really insulted when people asked me that... So we were talking about it again, and I told him my concerns about how, if the sleeve is really successful for me, that I will likely get the same questions again. People can be very rude. Some people may not find this funny and some may find it insulting, but it did sort of make me smile, and I think some of you will understand. But he said, "Hey, if people are gonna be all weird towards you, and ask you stupid questions like *do you have cancer?* then tell them you had a tumor in your stomach, had it removed and now you are super healthy and lost a lot of weight and it's been the best thing that ever happened to you." Hehe. That just might be my standard answer to anybody who is rude to me, just to shut them up. (and in no way do I mean it as an insult or dismissal of seriousness for anyone who DOES have stomach cancer) 2 BeautyVGSJourney and shellbell33081 reacted to this

Tibbie 55 Posted May 2, 2012 Isn't it silly the things people say? I think it's because they don't know WHAT to say. When I was 40, my husband passed away. We had 15 amazing years together. We were both very career driven, and neither of us ever wanted children (still don't! LOL) - so we never had any. When he passed, I actually had people ask me "Aren't you sad now that you and Randy never had children? You would have them in this time of need!". OMG...really? Seriously? If there was ANYTIME in my life that I was more at peace with my decision it was when he passed away! I could hardly contain my own grief, I can't IMAGINE having to deal with my childs grief too! People just say stupid things. So I'm all for the smart a$$ comments! Bring em' on!

Rootman 1,101 Posted May 2, 2012 I only did this once (shame on me! ) I was asked rather rudely "You got cancer or sumthin'?" I answered back, "NO, TB" and then hacked a good cough into my closed fist, opened it slightly and said "OH, god!". Man they backed off real suddenly! I started smiling and they caught on I was only kidding. I fessed up to the ruse and we actually had a good conversation about WLS, they were interested but were too attached to food. He actually said "I think I'd sooner die then give up my pizza and hamburgers." I felt so sorry for him. They are young and yet to have the problems of diabetes, high BP, joint problems and etc. They thing they have the world by the string and everything will be OK for them forever. I hope they're right but would bet that they're NOT. It will catch up with them some day just like it did me.
