Hello Everyone

I am 9 days post op and feeling ok. I had a pain in my rib for a few days but was told it was normal from where the instruments were during surgery. My worry is I have been sleeping 10 hours at night. I haven't slept that much in a long time. I don't nap during the day because I am restless. I go back to work on Monday and hope I can last all day. Anyone else going through this or been there?

That's normal, your body is recovering from pretty major trauma.

It is completely normal. I slept a lot the two weeks after surgery, my body needed it after a major surgery. I slept during th day and all night too. It took me about 3 weeks before I was back to my "normal" sleep pattern.

I slept a TON on days 5-8. If I sat down I was sleep. My husband would laugh at me and say I think surgery made you narcoleptic.

If I didn't have my mom taking care of me, I probably wouldn't eat enough! I am a store manager and need to go back next week for mothers day but I don't think I will last all day. I have an office day Monday but after that I am expected to be on the sales floor. I might not be able to go back as soon as I hope. Don't I need to be awake and active to gain strenghth?

I agree with what everybody has said. Remember that your body went through some major trauma and is dealing with it by sleeping. Basically, your body is putting you to sleep so it can spend its energy repairing all of the damaged tissue. It will take a while for you to get back to normal but don't overdo yourself. I went back to work early and found myself crashing in bed the minute I got home from work. I didn't even have enough energy to make myself dinner. Eventually you will become more active and then you'll regain your strength. In the meantime let your body do what it has to.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
