elizabeth12677 6 Posted May 2, 2012 Hello Everyone I am 9 days post op and feeling ok. I had a pain in my rib for a few days but was told it was normal from where the instruments were during surgery. My worry is I have been sleeping 10 hours at night. I haven't slept that much in a long time. I don't nap during the day because I am restless. I go back to work on Monday and hope I can last all day. Anyone else going through this or been there?
BlackBerryJuice 349 Posted May 2, 2012 That's normal, your body is recovering from pretty major trauma.
kimmy*custis 276 Posted May 2, 2012 It is completely normal. I slept a lot the two weeks after surgery, my body needed it after a major surgery. I slept during th day and all night too. It took me about 3 weeks before I was back to my "normal" sleep pattern.
Jeni Martin 26 Posted May 2, 2012 I waited to 3 weeks post op before returning... if I wasn't moving.. I was sleeping it seemed
njs_star627 19 Posted May 2, 2012 I am 2.5 weeks post op and I am sleeping my life away. It worried me cause I am in my Mushies stage and I would sleep through lunch and I was worried about being hydrated.
deltadawn817 106 Posted May 2, 2012 I slept a TON on days 5-8. If I sat down I was sleep. My husband would laugh at me and say I think surgery made you narcoleptic.
elizabeth12677 6 Posted May 2, 2012 If I didn't have my mom taking care of me, I probably wouldn't eat enough! I am a store manager and need to go back next week for mothers day but I don't think I will last all day. I have an office day Monday but after that I am expected to be on the sales floor. I might not be able to go back as soon as I hope. Don't I need to be awake and active to gain strenghth?
Mews 37 Posted May 2, 2012 I agree with what everybody has said. Remember that your body went through some major trauma and is dealing with it by sleeping. Basically, your body is putting you to sleep so it can spend its energy repairing all of the damaged tissue. It will take a while for you to get back to normal but don't overdo yourself. I went back to work early and found myself crashing in bed the minute I got home from work. I didn't even have enough energy to make myself dinner. Eventually you will become more active and then you'll regain your strength. In the meantime let your body do what it has to.
