I'm 7 weeks out now and wanted to know when can you introduce alcohol into your lifestyle. Sometimes socially theres pressure to have a drink or 2 and i'm not sure if it's too soon for me to drink yet.

I asked my doctor at my 2 week post-op appointment, he said it was fine to have one, but I probably would feel drunk in one drink. I have had a couple drinks, just a couple socially the past few weeks. Thursday will be 5 weeks post-op. I am a big drinker, well was, and don't feel anything but full and guilty after an adult beverage. I decided I'm going to wait 40 days until I go to the bahamas before another one. I have been finding now that I'm sleeved when I give in to myself the food/flavor sucks so the tiny bit I take in is enough to satisfy my mind and stop cravings. In the past though on a diet giving in ment opening the flood gate.

Thanks guys, i guess i'll try one drink and see how it goes. Do you feel ok after drinking? Does it hurt your sleeve or feel weird?

At two weeks out I went to Happy Hour with friends and ordered cranberry juice. The bartender made me a vodka cranberry instead - and a strong one. I didn't realize the mistake. One sip and let me tell you that sucker burned all the way down! At three weeks I had a sip of frozen strawberry margarita and it didn't bother me at all. When you do start, start weak and start slow, and stay away from carbonated mixers or beer.

I tried some wine 4 weeks out and it burned, did not feel good. Waited and tried again 9 weeks out and was fine then. You feel the alcohol much faster, so be careful and sip slow.

I hear you girl !!! Every celebration there is always alcohol involved with my friends and family . This weekend my friend is having a house warming BBQ tomorrow evening of course with alcohol and next weekend my family and I are going out of town cause my little sister is graduating from college so I'm sure we will Celebrate after with dinner and drinks . So I'm thinking to just have one drink at each event surely it won't be too bad. :-/ I went to church this past Sunday and went to communion and without thinking about it I accidentally took a pretty good sized drink of the wine it went down smooth but I did get a lil buzz a minute there in church but it didn't last too long haha !!!

I've had wine, martinis, and mixed drinks. Not all at once, probably just one of each over 3 or so weeks. The wine was probably the best going down and pefectly normal to sip. I had a pomegranate martini and later realized it was probably too acidic and made my side hurt. I ordered Water and vodka at a bar, I couldn't do carb drinks and don't like juices. Next time I should bring a flavor packet. I felt nothing, not drunk or buzzed or tipsy. I did take forever to finish one drink and have been a prize winning drinker since hs. My doc had no problem with this. Just take your time and get a DD just on case.

I think i'll try vodka and Water. The calories will be low too. From everyones experiences it seems like taking it slow and seeing what suits ur sleeve is best.

My surgeon is adamant about one year! I don't drink anyway, but I can see how some people would be really bummed!

My NUT was very adamant about no alcohol for a year. So I asked the doc and the reason is that it will slow down weight loss. I have had a small glass of wine and one rum and diet coke with no problems.

You know, I don't think my doctor mentioned a time period when I could have alcohol. He just said start off small and try doing it at home first because the way your body will react to it will be different than pre-op. I'm not a big drinker so this isn't an issue for me. However, this time of year for me is very stressful (end of semester grading) and it's usually the time when I do pull out the vodka. I'm a bit hesitant as my stomach is having a few issues with certain foods and I'm not sure if I really want to test it just yet. LOL

So over the weekend i went out and had a glass of wine and a vodka based cocktail. I spread my drinks over the course of 5 hours and i was perfectly ok. Once in awhile we all got to let our hair down.

Next week i'm off to cape town for my sisters hen week so hopefully i can stat focused.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
