Earthquake

Recommended Posts

OK we just had an earthquake...hate em! Those of you who've been through them will know what I mean  We don't have them in the UK, so it's something I've had to get used to here in Greece- downside to everything eh?

This one was a bone shaker...only 4.7 but very near to us. We had a huge one in February which was far away but was 6.9 and the first one ever felt by all Greece simultaneously.

So, what natural phenomenon have you been through and how do you deal with em?

Yikes, glad your okay.

I was in a flash flood, watched the Water rise up over my car w/in minutes, then lightening hit the building next to us and it caught on fire. There's nothing you can do in a situation like that except to stay inside and wait it out. Thats about it

Yeah, earthquakes would be bad. I have never dealt with those but living in South Florida I have dealt with a lot of hurricanes and they suck too. Having to secure our house, hit the highway and deal with horrible traffic and dealing with the outrageous flood/house insurance fees aren't fun either. Every once in a while we will get a nasty tornado too. Oh and we live in the #1 city in the country for lightening as well......BTW I still love my beaches so I guess I can't complain!

Mmmm, brings back memories of the couple of years I lived in Taipei. The most memorable quake for me was one that hit on an Easter Sunday (it was a 5 on the Richter scale where we lived, but we weren't at the epicentre). It lasted about a minute, and we were swaying around in our 14th floor apartment, with the bookcases and TVs and all else crashing down around us. I got under a bed with my 5 month old baby while DH rushed around trying to cut gas and electricity. Ten minutes before that earthquake, I had just discovered that I was pregnant with baby no. 2 - talk about a double whammy! And as if the earthquakes weren't enough, they have plenty of typhoons in Taiwan too....

Life is so boring here in France in comparison!

I have been through many earthquakes living in Southern California. Last big one I remember was the one in San Fernando Valley, I was 2 hours north but felt it BIG time and had no electricity for 1 or 2 days ( a long time ago)

SNOW SNOW AND MORE SNOW here in Boston. There are days you cant get out of your own house because the snow drifts cover your doors and the only way out is to climb out your window.

Here in Oklahoma we have had our share of tornados - but, it seems as if they have slowed down. I had heard on the news a few months back that we were no longer considered "tornado alley" - yeah right!

I've been told that we have earthquakes here in Oklahoma, but they are very - very small. Oh, and in Meers, Oklahoma - we have a sizemograph (sp?) that is able to pick up the quakes that are on the other side of the world - it's suppose to be the most sensitive either in the world or in the USA.

A tornado blew right alongside my house here in NJ. Houses were fine...but it took my tree, uprooted it, and slammed it down on my neighbors house! Scary stuff. Sounded like a train.

I live in Texas. Most cities have tornado warning sirens (for obvious reasons) and in the spring, they go off regularly and scare the pants off you - even if you have lived here all your life and never knew anyone personally who was killed by a twister.

I have seen a few up close and personal, but there were no cows flying thru the air (anyone remember that movie?).

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
