I'm reading that Biotin helps with Hair loss. However, there is so many to choose from. Can someone please lead me in the direction of the right product? I'm 3 weeks sleeved have not lost any hair yet but I want to be two steps ahead.

I started using Biotin after I noticed more than usual Hair loss after my sleeve. I use the 5000 mcg ~ 2 times a day. Bottle says 1 or 2 per day preferably with meals. I have noticed that after about a month, the hair loss has slowed down.

You may be ahead of the game if you haven't lost any hair yet. As I understand it, most people notice it very soon after surgery. That is what happened in my case. As far as taking anything for it, I think being proactive is better than being reactive. Hair loss is a combined result of a nutritional deficiency and the post operative shock that your body goes thru after major surgery. You may be one of those fortunate few who will not experience a significant hair loss. Keep doing what you're doing because it doesn't sound there's anything broken for you to fix! Good luck!

I take a daily Vitamin as well as the Biotin. I have long, thick hair as well. Well I did----got my middle of the back long hair cut above my shoulders because it was falling out so much. The Hair loss is starting to become less now. I'm not by any means thinning but glad that I do take the biotin to help with the loss.

I take Biotin and prenatal pills. U would be surprised what prenatal pills do for you whether u r pregnant or not.

Are you able to swallow pills at this time? I am not able to do that yet, but soooo looking forward to when I can. I tried the Bariatric Advantage Vitamins and almost hurled. I can't even choak them down. I am taking extra B vitamins though along with another chewable Vitamin. Is there any biotin that is chewable? Would like to get a jump on this issue. I also looked up foods that were higher in biotin, but since I am on pureed foods still, I can only get so much in. Thanks again for the info.

Hey Willowsknot - I don;t know if it would help, buy I take Isotonix Multi and B-Complex. It is a powder you mix in 2oz of Water and drink on empty stomach. I am 14 days out and other than some gall bladder issues popping up don't seem to have the fatigue or any Hair loss so far. They seem to absorb much better than a pill. Have a pleasant citrus flavor.

hair loss generally starts a few months after surgery. About 3 months seems to be really common. Sometimes less, not too often more. How long it lasts varies greatly. When I had my lapband it lasted about 6 weeks (the worst part), and about 8 - 10 weeks total. It was over 6 years ago so I'm getting sketchy on the details. :)

It is primarily a nutritional thing. There are no set correlations to surgery, though some people do have that reaction. There are people who will lose hair if they have anesthesia, regardless of surgery or not. In my case I have had:

Lapband surgery - lost hair significantly.

Gall bladder removed - no Hair loss at all.

Lapband removed - no hair lost at all.

Sleeve - no hair loss yet, but I'm still a pup... it's coming, I have full confidence.

The only time I lost hair has been when it coincided with extreme changes to intake/nutrition. I see this pattern most of the time.

There's no research indicating that Biotin supplements help (or hurt) with hairloss from bariatrics. That doesn't mean don't take it, it just means take it with the understanding that you might be disappointed. It could be that it helps, but it could also be that the hairloss had run its course and was ready to stop anyway. I'd love to see some actual research done on this (and Nioxin) because the bariatric community is probably keeping those markets alive. :)

The best result I've seen personally was a girl who got really hairy arms, but continued to lose her head hair.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
