Let's just say I haven't been going regularly. What do you recommend? Sleeved April 9.

I've had the best results from Fiber Choice chewables. They are *really* sweet tasting to me so I don't enjoy taking them but they do help me. I have some Fiber gummies from costco that seem to help me less. My body is really sensitive to some fiber options. I can't use the fiber bars and cereals (is it benefiber?) they advertise on TV unless I want to blow up like a puffer fish and toot all day long. I had the best results in the past from Citrucel. Metamucil made me a puffer fish too.

You might check with your surgeon to be sure they're ok with you taking fiber at (almost) a month out. I can't remember when I started them. The last four months are a blur in some ways. I've found it very important to use fiber supplements regularly or pay the price!

I recommend you handle it asap or you will end up like I did...read my post I just put on about being rushed to emergency Thursday. I have a block and it is not pretty. Do whatever you can? Eat tons and tons of fiber filled products. It is so much more serious than anyone acts like. My doctor said it like this, normal people eat enough to push it out, we don't, so we have to substitute. Drink fiber supplement everyday and push your Water. This is what he told me. Maybe if desperate like me, he said Miralax is gentle and also a few fellow sleevers just told me to try warm water with non iodized salt..tea or a hot bath. Let me know if you need any other help, I di not take it serious enough and it became a huge problem. Best of luck!

Milk of Magnesia did the trick for me.

I'm not at this point (yet), but I had a question.

If we are at the point where we can eat mushies, in general, are people allowed to have oat bran? Because one or two tablespoons of oat bran cooked in the microwave with a bit of milk has definitely taken care of this problem for me in the past. Tasty, too.

I just don't know if bran would be considered too "rough" for our sleeves.

I started Miralax this morning, and will add in BeneFiber tonight. Been 2 weeks for me. I was going every 4 - 7 days but it's completely stopped. I wasn't even really paying attention and all of a sudden it was like... Umm, self, you haven't pooped in a REALLY long time... Drinking a small apple juice right now, and going to try and get in an extra 20 oz of Water tonight.

Hubby is threatening to get me this to wear, to "celebrate" whenever I get somewhat normal bowel function back.

I'd probably totally wear it.

You may need MOM more than once for the action to start. Once it does, then return to a normal dosage, but don't stop taking it. Be preventative. Once a day in the morning. I did this for about 2 weeks until meeting my fluids.

Miralax was recommended by my surgical nurse, she said to wait several weeks before using Benefiber because it is a "bulking" product and can swell the new tummy.

I cannot seem to get enough Fiber in mushy stage, so using Miralax until "real" food time.

BeneFiber is indeed a bulking agent, and can drastically make the problem far worse if you are not able to get enough fluids. More than you'll ever want to know about different laxatives that I posted earlier this week.

Today was day 2 of Miralax taken with apple juice and I was finally able to go, after more than 2 weeks. I had to work at it, but - phew - at least things are moving.

Whooz - absolutely follow whatever your peeps are telling you, but aside from that, it kind of depends on how you're dissolving your fiber. I put mine into apple juice. Low viscosity fluids like Water and most juice swill be out of your stomach (assuming everything else is OK) pretty quickly. Your stomach contracts to grind/clear contents about every 20 seconds. Things like Water can be pushed right through. I would not add a dissolvable fiber like Benefiber to something like Cereal, or anything that had to be ground up (they hang out a lot longer).

Benefiber also doesn't thicken like some of the others do, hence it's the preferred fiber additive for RNY patients.

HTH!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
